Last week we returned from a 10 day visit, which we thoroughly enjoyed. It was our first time in Mexico, and several people we spoke to at this hotel told us we'd chosen the best hotel.
We were very impressed by the customer service - people genuinely seemed to appreciate that you'd chosen to go there for your holiday, and wanted to make sure you had a great time. Staff are attentive and friendly but not obsequious.
We stayed in Block 27 on the second floor and we thought that location was perfect - great ocean view and peaceful, yet close to everything - we'd chose that room again. This was in the Preferred Club section - worth the upgrade.
We chose an adults only hotel so that the pool areas would be quiet, and they were first thing in the morning, but by the afternoon it wasn't at all relaxing - particularly near the swim up bar! However, the infinity pool has a beuatiful setting and it is slightly quieter. You can't reserve a sun bed in the morning, which is a sensible and fair policy.
Food is good - the Japanese, Italian and French restaurants were our favourites, and I'd agree with previous comments that the other restaurants were a bit hit and miss. The lunchtime BBQ was excellent though - simple freshly grilled fish and meat with chips and salad - perfect if you get fed up with typical hotel food. The chefs also wander around with other treats, e.g. paella - all delicious.
We took three trips - all very well organised and good value for money. We booked these in reception, through the local agent, Amstar - a very professional outfit.
The only disappointment was the golf - we hadn;t appreciated we would have to pay $80 each for a buggy ($50 after 2.00pm) plus another $50 for taxis. So although we took our clubs we decided it wasn't worth the additional $180 for a round of golf. This is in the small print, but we missed it, so unless you're a keen golfer, I'd leave the clubs at home.
There is loads to do and at first I was slightly concerned that the resort might be a bit of a "holiday camp" but the entertainement staff are very respectful if you don't want to join in and if you do, you'll have a great time as they are irrespressible and hugely engaging people. The tennis courts are not wonderful, but we had a set at 5pm every night which is the best time to play. Kayaking is also a fun thing to try. The evening entertainment was better than I expected - varied and good fun.
The spa is delightful and the treatments very good. I was a bit taken aback when just before my massage the therapist whispered in my ear " can I use the special gel for knots?" I replied "go for it" and she so whilst informing me that would cost me another $20! I paid and said nothing as overall the experience was a good one, but they need to stop that practice.
As an all inclusive resort, the food, wine and service was all much better than we have experienced elsewhere. Even around the pool you were constantly asked if you wanted a drink and there was always food on hand. It might always be the finest wine or food, but value for money, you really can't really fault what this place offers and we'd go back.

Room Tip: Block 27 is very well situated

We stayed here at the beginning of the year for 2 weeks and generally the hotel was very nice.
The staff at check-in were very friendly and helpful and the swim-out room in block 23 was clean and very nicely kept. We swam the first evening and it was like a bath.
We had requested a room that got the sun but the next morning we realised the sun was gone by 10am so if we wanted to sunbathe we'd have to go to the beach or pool. Kind of defeated the idea of paying extra for a swim-out!
We asked to move rooms and were shown to block 20 that had the sun all day so gratefully accepted. No sooner had we unpacked than my husband stepped in the pool, only to discover it was freezing cold! And to top it off, the filter didn't appear to be switched on and there was debris floating on the surface.
We decided to stay put and had a lovely intimate meal in the Italian restaurant.
That night though, we were woken almost every 20-30 minutes! The room was on the route for the room service trolleys and as the corridors are gravelled all we heard all night was them clattering past.
Again we asked to move and this time we had a swim out room in block 14. This was great. The pool was heated and it got the sun til around 4pm.

I know we sound fussy but we'd paid a lot of money for this holiday and expect to get what we pay for.

The restaurants were all quite nice but the only one that was really good was the Japanese. The teppanyaki show is well worth a watch and this is the only table you actually need to book. The staff here are fantastic.
The steak and fish restaurants were a bit hit and miss. We had a couple of lovely meals and a couple that were cold or had meat in the fish dishes that wasn't supposed to be there!

The beach was lovely, just a bit windy but the sea was beautiful and you could walk miles in either direction.
If you turned right however, there was a lot of debris washed up which was a shame.
The waitress service on the beach was probably the best in the hotel. Those people work very hard and definitely deserve a tip.

Room service generally took 45 minutes and again was a bit hit and miss. The food was great and always piping hot but several times things were missed off.
The all inclusive package at this hotel was brilliant, you could literally eat and drink all day if you wish and the coco cafe was great for more simple cakes and sandwiches and great coffee.

The rooms on the ground floor are nearly all a bit overlooked due to the layout and you can hear a lot of noise from outside the front doors all evening which was a real shame.
I wouldn't stay here again purely due to the noise levels. I like a quiet peaceful holiday and we even got woken at 8.30 one morning by workmen in the room next door hammering above our heads!
This hotel mainly caters for American and Canadian guests who are lovely people but extremely noisy! There definitely was a lot of hollering and whooping around the pool areas!!

Check-out was very disappointing. We queued for about 30 minutes and were rushed through in literally 30 seconds. The guy didn't even look us in the eye or ask if we'd enjoyed our stay.

If you've never been to Mexico before, check that your airline includes departure tax. BA do but if yours doesn't you'll get stung for around £60-£80 (not sure exactly) each on your way home!
Also, when you arrive in Mexico, after you collect your bags you'll have to queue again for quite a while to have them scanned before you leave the airport. You'll be asked to push a button and if it beeps as ours did you'll have your bags searched. Its completely random.
And beware of the helpful men offering to show you to your transfer at the airport - they're working for tips and are very demanding!!

Room Tip: Ask for a room in blocks 12-17 if you want sunshine after 10am and a heated pool.

My husband and I spent 10 days at Secrets Maroma. From the very moment that we arrived, the place was fantastic! Our first impression was of the Preferred Club Lounge, which was awesome! It has its own bar, assorted food to pick on, some games, and a few computers that could be used. We selected the room with the tub on the deck. If we were to select again, I would definitely pick the swim out! But regardless, the rooms were beautiful, perfectly clean, absolutely no complaints. Our buildings' concierge, was fantastic! He was always there for anything and everything we needed! The pools are also fantastic. Always clean. Many different areas to lounge, but we always stayed by the pool with the bar! After noon time, they would always come around with trays of assorted food, which was great! The beach was beautiful. We also spent a day at the Spa. The spa was absolutely incredible. Words cannot describe how perfect it was. It was the most relaxing day and the decor is absolutely great. There was not one employee at any time during our stay that we could say anything bad about. Everyone that we came in contact with could not do enough for us. The shows were also fantastic, but since we were there for over 7 days, we saw the same shows, which was fine. There are a lot of different places to eat at also. Our absolute favorite was the Hibachi place. There are only 3 hibachi tables, good sizes, but you have to make a reservation, but can just go and eat at regular tables. My husband loved the sushi. We went there 3 times. They have the best dessert, fried ice cream! The Italian restaurant was also really good, as well as the seafood and steakhouse. The one thing that I didn't like was how dark it was at night. As you walk through the pathways, that aren't by any restaurants, it's extremely dark! I'm trying to remember if I thought of everything i wanted to share...There was just so many things there that we were sooo happy about, we didn't want to leave! Thanks to the staff at Secrets Maroma for a great and memorable honeymoon!

My husband and I went with a group of friends to Secrets Maroma Beach and thoroughly enjoyed our visit!
Rooms: Very nice. Well appointed. We had a 2nd floor room but the 3rd and 4th floor rooms provide the beach views.
Food: For an all-inclusive we were very pleased with the food. If you go in a group it can be diifficult to get seating/service, but eventually we were accomodated.
Service: A+! Every room comes with a concierge who assists you with everything you need.
Beach: The beach is absolutely GORGEOUS! The beach beds come with their own food/beverage service which we only wish we could have enjoyed longer.
WARNING: The vacation club presenation will take you at least 2 full hours so just be prepared that you will lose some valuable beach time.

Room Tip: 3rd or 4th floor for ocean views.

This was our second trip to Secrets Maroma Beach. We were there March 26-30. We decided to go back because we enjoyed it so much 3 years ago too.
First of all, let me say that the staff is first class and the hospitality couldn't have been better - from the moment we arrived until we had to leave.

This time we got an ocean view room on the 3rd floor - Bldg 24 and it was wonderful. Great location to everything. Nice to sit out on the balcony and listen to the ocean! Last time we had a swim out room and that was nice as well. Can't go wrong with either!
The rooms are spectacular - very comfortable bed and nice bathroom with jacuzzi tub for two and walkin shower as well. Always kept clean and refreshing!
Be sure to have room service for breakfast one morning - fabulous!!
Also, have them deliver champaigne to your room when coming off the beach. Nice way to relax. They gave us a free bottle since we were celebrating our 35th anniversary, but you can also have them bring glasses of champaigne at no cost.

Beach/Pool - the beach is beautiful - that is why we chose Maroma Beach. Good walking beach and white sand. We have stayed in other locations in Cancun where the beach is not so nice. We never had a hard time getting a lounge chair on the beach or around the pool. Loved the pool area too. so nice to float around on the rafts in the pool. Pure relaxation!! Service was excellent around the pool and they were always there to get you a drink. Try the Mudslide drink - YUM!!!!

Food - All the restaurants are good, but the best are the Himitsu (Asian- like a Japanese Steak house). Be sure to make reservations to have the cooking done before you on the grill. Quite a show too!!! You can also sit at a table and order anything - Great sushi. The Oceana (seafood) restaurant was our other favorite spot. Delicious seafood.
At lunch, be sure to order the shrimp cocktail (either by the pool waiter or at the Sea Side Restaurant by the pool)

Entertainment -the entertainment staff works so hard. There is always something to do. The night shows that we enjoyed the most were the American Idol and the Cirque Zumanity show. It was a little risque for us, but a great show. I just wish the staff did not have to make everything so sexual. They could leave that off!

Spa - we did the couples spa treatment and it was amazing. Definitely take advantage of this beautiful facility!!!

Tipping - we never felt pressured to tip and it is not expected. However we did at the Spa and also gave our concierge a tip when we left. Each building has there own Concierge you can call to get you anything!

Internet - do not pay the extra to get the preferred rooms with internet service. In the lobby there is an internet business office with 4 computers you can use at any time.

Loved every minute!! Will definitely go back!!!

Room Tip: Ocean view - must get on 3rd or 4th floors. Be sure you are not blocked by a palm tree though. the...

What more can we say ... we had been dreaming of this holiday for a long time and we can only say that all our dreams came true. It was truely the best resort we have ever stayed in. From the moment we arrived we felt like we were in paradise. We find it hard to believe some of the negative comments that people have put on trip advisor. We would have to really nit pick to find fault and we promise you we tried hard to find things to be critical about. We stayed for 10 nights from 19th March to 29th March and it was a much needed holiday after my partner had been sick and just what we both needed. Everything was perfect from the room, to the food, to the staff and general surroundings. We booked a swim out room which was a real treat if a little chilly as our room was in the shady side of the complex. So if getting a swim out or you like to sit on your balcony we would recomend building 15 or 16. A preferred suite is not necessary there is everything you need as a regular customer. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff. Yes you will be offered a chat upon arrival re up grading or becoming a preferred customer but if you say you're not interested straight away they just show you to your room, no fuss at all. As for the bathrooms, yes they are open although have doors on shower and toilet - remember this is supposed to be a couples resort!!! And the jacuzzi was plenty big enough for 2!! Our favourite restaurants were the French and Japanese - even though we don't eat sushi there is other choices and the special cooking show is not to be missed - the chef is great entertainment.
If you really force us to be critical, could only point out that the sun needed to set a little later in the evening!
A fantastic holiday and would recommend it to all you love birds out there.

Room Tip: Go for swim out room in buildings 15 or 16 if you want sun most of the day - also about half way bet...

We stayed at Secrets Maroma for a week, arriving on a Sunday morning and leaving on a Saturday morning. We stayed in the Preferred Club section for our 20th anniversary celebration. The room was fantastic! We stayed in the honeymoon suite: king bed, double shower, indoor jacuzzi as well as one out on the balcony, wet bar, living area. The beach was stunning - we rented a beach bed (palafito) 3 of our days, and it was well worth the $40/day for full service food and drinks delivered to your bed and any needs taken care of. Our "beach butler" Jaime took excellent care of us, and we requested him for the rest of our stay. The pool was lovely, although we didn't spend as much time there as on the beach. Our concierge Sandra was amazing, arranging everything we needed. We missed her on her day off, which happened to coincide with some inconveniences.
Our complaints were minor but important to mention. First, the internet signal is pathetically weak in the rooms. if you need to stay connected, this is a big problem. Second, there was construction going on in the room next to us. For one day, there was serious hammering going on, but they didn't start until 9 and they quit by 5. That same day we had a couple power outages that lasted for maybe 5 minutes, and we had no hot water for a little while. That said, when we told Sandra, she was horrified, and she complained to the maintenance crew that she needed to be informed about these things before they happened so she could warn people. We mentioned it to the general manager as well, just because we thought it was important that he know, and he went out of his way to make it right by offering us a free massage at the spa.
We highly recommend the romantic dinner on the beach - what a great evening. We also enjoyed the teppanyaki dinner at Himitsu. The spa was super, as well!
Overall this is a lovely place that we did not want to leave. Every single staff member, from the general manager down to the housekeeping staff, was outstanding. Now we're trying to figure out when we can go back!

Room Tip: Preferred club rooms are closest to the beach and have great service!
