“A wonderful week in Paradise!”
Reviewed August 29, 2011

We were at Secrets Maroma from Aug. 20 - 27th. It exceeded my expectations. From the moment you arrive, you are treated wonderfully. We were met with a drink and taken to the preferred check in. We were not bothered regarding time share and were taken to our room by Carlos after a quick drink at the bar. We had a swim out in building 26. The room was amazing. Well stocked mini bar, never had a problem with the AC, in fact kept turning it down as it was getting a little cool. The pool was awesome and never had a problem getting chairs in our desired location at the infinity pool. The food delivered by the chefs was nice. We ate in the Seaside Grill 3 times and the grilled shrimp was good. Tried all the a la cartes except the Mexican. They were all exceptional. The beach was nice...try the swing bar. Spent most nights at the Lobby Bar and it was open well past 10pm. Had room service once for breakfast and once for dinner. Arrived quickly and hot! Morning buffet was terrific. Can't tell you anything negative. Yes, had a few bug bites, but not even close to what we get here in Ontario when you go up north for the weekend. And no kids!! That was the best (and we have kids). Will definitely return, not next year, because we have to take the kids next time! I loved it. Don't listen to the bad reviews...preferred is definitely worth the little extra.

Room Tip: Building 26 swimoout!

My husband and I visited this gorgeous resort in August, our first holiday without children for 18 years. We both had the most amazing holiday and I honestly cannot fault any area. All the staff were so friendly, service was excellent and the resort was truly fantastic. We certainly came away thinking we had received value for money. I would have no hesitation in recommending this resort to anybody and have no doubt we will return, once we have saved up. If you are looking for that special holiday, this is it.

We normally stay at the Iberostar Grand Playa Paraiso but wanted to try something else and this was a good choice. Not as oppulent as Iberostar but we liked the food better, the staff was very attentive and the grounds were very nice. We're a couple in our late 40's and the place was almost completely newlyweds but we had a great time nonetheless. We booked through AmEx and they were very attentive, too.

Room Tip: Beautiful rooms!

All of our expectations were exceeded on this trip. My wife and I have traveled extensively and agree that our experience with Secrets tops them all.

The room was spacious, clean and beautiful. The resort was big enough but not too big. The food was amazing in each restaurant including the breakfast buffet (normally we wont go near a buffet), and the Service was the shining star of secrets. Also room service is 24/7 fast and as good as the restaurants.

We can't say enough about the staff of this resort. From the very second on the property we felt welcome. Check in was a pleasure that only took a few minutes. Each building has it's own concierge and ours was wonderful. She was always around to help with anything from requests for the mini bar to arranging transportation back to the airport when our trip was over. This must be a good company to work for because you just can't fake the attitudes that all the staff have here. Each one was pleasant and accommodating. Always quick to smile and help out in any way they could. They have an entire group of staff who's sole purpose is to make sure you are having fun.

Entertainment is there if you want it and not obtrusive if you don't. You can have any type of vacation you want it to be. Relaxed and secluded one day to party games at the pool the next. You really can make it any kind of trip you want and the staff is there to help in any way they can.

We will definitely ber going back to Secrets Maroma and look forward to discovering other resorts owned by AM. I think Secrets in Punta Cana will be next!

Room Tip: If you don't NEED an ocean view any room will do. We say a few and they were all amazing.

We stayed at Secrets Maroma the first week in Aug.. We picked this all inclusive resort because of the rave reviews it recieves here on trip advisor! Let me tell you, that it lived up to all the hype and then some! The resort is beautiful and clean. the staff went above and beyond to meet our every need. A very special thank you to Ivan, the concierge manager. He impressed us so much w/ his kindness and wanting to genuinely help us make our stay that much more enjoyable. He went into town, off the clock for us, to pick up a souvenir that we had forgotten to buy while in town previously that day. Such a great guy! The food was great as well. Not having to make reservations upon arrival for any of the restaurants was wonderful . We casually walked in to all, and never had to wait to be seated. Our favorite restaurant was the Japanese. Great sushi and the chef even made us our favorite appetizer which wasn't on the menu. Highly recommend room service, too! The portobello "hamburger" w/ salmon in the middle is really good! Icrcream at 2am, after dancing the night away in "Desires" also hit the spot! The pool was huge and we never had a problem finding two avail. chairs, no matter what time of the day we went over to the pool. And, the food that the staff brings around to everyone poolside is fabulous and brought around often! Highly suggest going into town/ Playa del Carmen. A taxi ride costs $22 each way, but worth it. The town is clean, safe and so quaint. Great for picking up souvenirs and even really cute clothing(check out SOHO-Great womens clothing!). Across from SOHO, is a great little pizza place, too! $1/slice and excellent! Another favorite of ours was a gelato place on one of the side streets just a couple stores down from the main strip. Oh, be leary when buying jewelry! I am sorry to report that we got "taken" by the guys at the "Mayan Legacy". We thought we were buying a "Mexican Fire Opal" for $150-talked down from $700! , but in fact purchased a crystal ring, valued at $50! We should have known better, our mistake. Still, this did not wreck our trip, it's part of our story. And, I do love my 9 CARAT FAUX Mexican Fire Opal ring my husband bought for me for our 10 yr anniversary! lol... There were a bunch of cute restaurants. We did bring our laptop and internet access was arranged w/ the concierge staff member assigned to our room for $50-60approx for the 7 days.(can't remember, sorry) I guess the real only complaint that comes to mind is that the month of Aug. is hot! Coming from Florida, we are used to the heat and humidity. What bothered us just a little was the warm lobby, and nighclub and the fact that our room seemed to warm up during the night. Although, with that being said, 3 weeks later we are still saying what a fabulous time we had and how nice it was. I am not one to go back to the same resort twice . I like to travel and see what's out there, but Secrets Maroma may be the exception. It's a wonderful all inclusive, adult only , beautiful resort. Highly suggest it to everyone!

Just got back from the Mayan Riviera in which we visited four resorts over 16 days. Secrets Maroma was one of the four and a return visit from last year, it did not disappoint.

The service and fun is what sets this resort apart. We have been to over 26 different resorts up and down the Mayan coast and still Secrets is our favorite.

A few highlights worth pointing out.

The entertainment staff they have is wonderful, don't be shy getting involved as it is so much fun. The talked me into the American Idol show and all 7 guests that played where very good. I made the pool volleyball a daily thing.

Thought the breakfast buffet was better now then last year. The drinks and the wait staff around the pool is the best of any resort, also better then last year. The ala carte restaurants had taken a step back IMO is food quality but still very good. Also this years SPA treatments we had were not as good as last years, still very nice but another step back in our opinion.

The maintenance of the resort is excellent and the grounds are really starting to mature now, beautiful. The beach was covered with a lot of sea weed for the first couple days due to tropical storm Harvey but was quickly clean up "by hand".

This resort is just plain peaceful and fun. We try to find something better but have not so far. Will return again next year.

A few tips.
Wait for the taco cart around the pool at lunch...yummy
Don't forget the excellent coffee shop. We had double shot cappuccinos with Baily's and Grand Marnier always after dinner.
Go to the shows, the more people the more fun, we had a lively crowd which made is so fun.
If you do nor see it on the menu ask for it, the cooks will try to make you whatever you wish.
Love the Electric Lemonade drink!!
