“Relaxing and Cookies Too”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 18, 2007

An October birthday get away, and just what we were looking for. The home is large, has several room selections, ours with a separate sitting room. We were in the converted barn and it was very cozy, comfortable. The host and hostess were aware of our needs, balanced attention with giving us space to enjoy the home without any 'hovering'.

We wanted to paddle the areas lakes, paddled the length of Highland Lake one day, part of Long Lake the next. Our room had a Jacuzzi tub we took advantage of after paddling and we enjoyed chocolate chip or gingersnap cookies upon our return.

Off season Bridgeton is quiet, many restaurants are closed in the area but the innkeepers gave us excellent suggestions and we enjoyed our meals. Low key restaurants were what we preferred and experienced. Casual clothes were all we needed.

The sunroom was the dining experience that allowed for a separate table for each party and yet conversation flowed between tables easily. We enjoyed the couple sharing the barn honeymoon suite and had a learning experience about Arizona in the summer. Hot. People visiting Bridgeton at that time of year seemed to be eager to get out and see the area, and the innkeepers were helpful with suggestions. Books on the area were available and taken advantage of by the guests.

The house has two areas to utilize for relaxing, plus the formal dining room or the sunroom/breakfast room. We chose to use our sitting room for reading or the couch in front of the fire in the evening.

This is a nice place with nice innkeepers and a great sweet dog. Do give it a try.

Our experience was good overall. We had an excellent breakfast and the rooms were very comfortable and charming. The owners were accomodating and willing to please however, not kid friendly at all. The moment the owners laid eyes on my child they had a bad attitude. We were instantly sent to the basement level to stay. At one point Rick felt he had to tell me he didn't put mattress covers on the bed we were sleeping in and expressed twice that they paid a lot for the mattress. I was surprised that the very next morning I found a dog in their kitchen while they were preparing breakfast. This Bed and Breakfast is perfect for older couples but not families in my opinion.

While we believe that all guests are entitled to their opinions, there are significant facts not mentioned in this review as well as an incorrect statement, which we take great exception to.

First of all, this guest made 3 seperate on-line reservations for 3 rooms, and stated on their form that 2 guests would be occupying each room for a total of 6 guests. Well, they arrived with 7 guests, including a toddler. The couple with the toddler wanted to stay in a double occupancy room, which we explained was not possible because there were 3 guests, not 2 like they stated in their reservation request. Luckily, they did have the option of staying in one of the other rooms that they had reserved, which could accommodate 3 guests when the roll-away is used. They said that they didn't need a roll-away because the baby slept with them. Rick mentioned that they would have to be responsible for any damage to the mattress as a result of potential bed-wetting because the roll-away is designed to accommodate the third guest, not the queen bed. As for being "sent to the basement", this triple occupancy room is located on our garden level, with French doors that lead out to the patio, lawns and gardens, hardly a basement. It resides next to our other family-oriented guestroom on the first floor where children are also always welcome and visit us often. The bottom line is that she falsified the reservation request and lied about the number of guests in her party. Fortunately, we were able to accommodate her family of 3 in one of our family-oriented rooms.

Secondly, while we do have a very friendly, well-behaved dog, she has NEVER been allowed in our kitchen. This guest made a false statement, which we take great exception to. Our dog, Daisy, is ONLY allowed in the den when not in our private owners quarters. She has been carefully and successfully trained not to cross any thresholds and stops even when enticed by guests!

The interesting and confusing aspect of this review is that these guests were very complimentary throughout their stay. No issue was ever raised with us and so we were very suprised and disappointed to see this inaccurate & unfair review. We strive to make eveyone's stay as enjoyable and comfortable as possible!

Just returned from a two night stay at this delightful inn. The owners, Rick and Julie, could not have been more warm or hospitable. Having casually mentioned the stay was celebrating our 16th anniversary, we were so pleased to find a complimentary bottle of champagne for two waiting in our beautiful room. We stayed in the lovely honeymoon suite. The decor was very tasteful and included a queen black iron canopy bed with quality linens and a wonderful down comforter at the foot of the bed for extra coziness. Additionally, the room has a small sitting room with a great settee for two and tv with vcr and dvd.
The breakfasts were just outstanding both mornings!! They included a starter with a fruit dish and bread item followed by a full entree including an egg dish and sweet item like waffle or pancake. Delicious!
Rick and Julie told us this was their fourth year operating the inn. They are in the process of renovating rooms. The most recent renovation on the first floor which we took a peek into was just beautiful. High quailty furnishings and fixtures with warm and tasteful decor. I would note that the bathroom in our room had fixtures that are more dated and while immaculate and very adequate it would benefit from a more current update of fixtures.
It is the innkeepers that make this B&B so special. We would highly recommend a stay here!

From the moment we arrived and opened the front door we experienced the warmth and friendliness of the innkeepers, Rick and Julie. The accomodations were immaculate, the grounds beautiful, and there were many places both inside and outside for relaxation, reading and exploring. The dinner recommendations provided were excellent on both nights of our stay. The breakfasts were truly outstanding, certainly a result of the joy of the providers. A homemade cookie consumed on the first afternoon led me back the next day for another. To my dismay the jar was empty. I was told a fifteen minute wait was necessary because the brownies were cooling. In all my travels I have never witnessed the level of friendship and committment of the innkeepers at Noble House.

Rick and Julie are such nice people, and they create the most welcoming, confortalbe environment for all the guests. The furnishings have an old-fashioned, victorian feel; the property is very well maintained. There are 2 common rooms, where guests are encouraged to relax and meet one another. They have a large number of books available to read, especially in the Library suite. Every party gets a private suite, 2 to 3 rooms and a bathroom. I went there by myself, and they booked me into my own suite at a discount; they do not make you share a suite with people not in your party. The breakfasts were excellent, with enough variety every morning. You can also get cookies, hot chocolate, tea and coffee at any time in the dining area. For dinner, I ate at a wonderful Italian restaurant just a few minutes down the road. Overall, staying at the Noble House was so much more than a typical hotel / B+B. Rick and Julie really go the extra mile to make sure all the guests are happy and comfortable. I really feel like I made a couple of good friends!

Deciding to ski at Shawnee Peak for a family ski weekend was easy, finding the perfect B&B seemed to be a bit more challenging; that is until we happened upon The Noble House B&B's website. Rick and Julie present their Inn with a comfortable and hospitable feel; and it truly is a most comfortable and welcoming environment.

The location is within 5 miles of Shawnee Peak making our daily jaunts a piece of cake. The Inn itself is beautiful, filled with well kept antiques and comfortable lounging and relaxing spots. The atmosphere is delightful with a fire burning most times in the informal living area as well as a gas lit fireplace in the more formal living room. There was always a fire burning in the gas woodstove in the breakfast area during the "wicked good breakfast" adding to the ambience. Our rooms (the library) were well furnished and very, very comfortable. The proprietors have truly thought of everything that could make a visitors stay as relaxing and comfortable as possible. Though I'm not a breakfast person myself, I couldn't resist their breakfasts. Every morning they served an egg dish, meat (be it bacon or apple sausage, or breakfast sausage), homemade breads, cereal, homemade granola, pancakes or bread pudding and coffee (and I'm quite sure I've forgotten at least one item.) There is always coffee, tea and hot cocoa available. The highlight for my daughter was the bottomless cookie jar of homemade cookies put out by Julie every evening.

Truly I could go on but this is the kind of place you just have to experience. We left thinking if we made our family and friends feel as welcome and comfortable, enjoying even the silliest of conversations while they stayed, we'd make every visit a memorable one. Rick and Julie have set the standard with The Noble House B&B; they provide an environment of friends amongst friends.

After our third remarkable experience at the Noble House, we feel compelled to share our experience. Owners Rick and Julie have taken a special location and added a superb level of hospitality through their attention to detail, their remarkable spirit and energy, their sumptuous and varied breakfast menus, and their overall hosting philosophies-- we felt extraordinarily and perfectly spoiled. They provided perfect suggestions for activities and dining, and upon our return from a cold and wet hike they appeared out of nowhere with hot drinks and snacks. But at the same time, they are discreet and subtle, making for the perfect B&B experience-- romantic solitude mixed with perfect pampering. Special touches, like the cookie jar, or the Tom's of Maine toothpaste in the bathroom, or the opportunity to cuddle up in front of the living room fire to chat with guests from all over the world-- it all just adds to what is already a wonderful taste of Maine's finest. As per usual, we can't wait to return.
