Forty some master gardeners stayed at the Sprucewold lodge and received outstanding hospitality from its owners. There is not a thing that they forgot which made the stay a winner. The owners make every effort to address any need, large or small, of every guest. It is a great value and an intensely charming step into the old world of Boothbay Harbor

Don't stay here when you expect to find an all luxurious 5 star hotel room, do stay here when you are looking for a rustic, nice place that has something else to offer, a place that is simply different! The owners are both very nice and friendly people, you can see that they are very proud of this place and are very willing to tell you everyhting about the history of it. They also gave us very good restaurant recommendations and had a map of the town and how to get there. It's not walking distance, well maybe in the summer time, but definetely not in autumn-October. The room itself is basic, the lodge is old and even though the owners have tried to update the place, you can't make it into a luxuriuous place without touching the historic elements of this building, so they did the best they could. Bed and bathroom are OK, nothing fancy. Breakfast was spectacular though, almost all 26 rooms were booked so breakfast was very busy, but there was so much to choose from and everything was fresh, probably the best breakfast we had in our 2 1/2 week-stay in the US!

The historic Sprucewold Lodge was not only a great bargain, our stay there was a highlight of our trip. We had connecting rooms with a single bathroom. The rooms were basic and comfortable. The lodge's location, in the woods, was quiet and relaxing, but not too far off the beaten path. Sprucewold has a wonderful great room in the lodging facility, complete with a fireplace and cozy furniture. Breakfast is included in the price of the rooms. The breakfasts were oh-so good! Blueberry pancakes, homemade coffee cakes, eggs, bacon, sausage. The Lodge has a 2nd building, for meals and for hanging out. While there was a big screen TV, we enjoyed playing Scrabble and checkers. They have a huge assortment of games available. The hosts, Richard and his son, are very personable and helpful. I highly recommend Sprucewold. It's great for families, singles or couples.

I didnt find the Sprucewold on Trip advisor, I think I found it accidentaly and was glad I booked it. Had to change my reservations and Richard was very accomdating. Upon arrival at the Lodge, we were pleasantly surprised at the homeiness and comfortable the main building was. He had a fire in the fire place and rooms ready to go after a seriously late arrival. Paper thin walls but thought it was funny as to how much it made this place unique. Just remember that your booking a lodge that was designed about 80 years ago and that ammenities are basically from that era.

The Sprucewold Lodge claims to be the largest log cabin structure east of the Mississippi, and I believe it. It reminds me of the log lodges in Glacier, Yellowstone, and other national parks out west. It has the rustic feel of a past era, but is still comfortable and pleasant in the 21st century.

While somewhat small, and fairly basically furnished, the rooms are more than adequate. The beds are comfortable, the shower/tub had plenty of hot water, and there was plenty of space. We got two adjoining rooms for the price of one.

Where the Sprucewold Lodge really shines is in the incredibly atmospheric common areas. The lodge's entrance room has lots of comfortable sofas and nooks for hanging out and reading. The covered porch has nice, big rocking chairs. The dining hall has a large screen TV with nice seating, a game area, and other spaces for lingering. The poles to the roof are real trees. The hot buffet was very tasty. The dining room has large, round tables to encourage communal dining. Our table mates were a family who lived less than a mile from us even though we were 700 miles from home.

The lodge is located in the woods above the town, and are a refreshingly quiet escape from the town. We could sleep with our windows open and enjoy the cool night air.

The hosts are a lovely couple who obviously take great pride in their historic buildings and are eager to share that love with their guests. We can't wait to go back.

My wife and I stayed here two nights in late July. Place is located in a quiet, wooded area with moderate length walks to beach or town.

The lodge is a bit dated in some aspects but cozy, clean and well maintained.

The real selling point of this place is the management. They were outstanding - helpful and knowledgeable.

Overall, a good value in the Boothbay Harbor region.

I decided on the Sprucewold after checking out several Boothbay Harbor properties online. The character of the lodge looked neat and I thought my husband and toddler son would enjoy it too. We were certainly not disappointed! The property is located up a hill and surrounded by tall trees and other log cabins - it really feels secluded even though it is not far from town or the ocean. Both the lodge and the large dining hall/game room across the street are really beautiful and well-maintained - pictures do not do them justice. Our room was likewise very well kept, which is probably no easy feat in a historic building. Because there were not a lot of other guests staying at the same time (right after the 4th of July), there was no buffet, but we were given forms to custom order our breakfast. The food was excellent and plentiful (thank you, Vanessa) and my son particularly enjoyed playing with the blocks, foosball table, and collection of funny hats in the dining hall afterwards. Richard was a very gracious, accommodating and friendly host. My only regrets about our stay are 1) that I never did get to enjoy reading out on the porch (due to busy toddler and plans with relatives) and 2) that we couldn't stay longer. My husband was likewise impressed and we hope to include the Sprucewold Lodge on our Maine vacation itinerary from now on.
