Description: Food & Wine Magazine came up with the idea of “Collaboration Nation” to describe chefs working with customers, vendors and each other to bring the best flavors and experiences to those who love food. The principles of Chefs Stiles and Weinerth are sourcing, preperation, and enhancement. Here at Spruce Point Inn in Boothbay Harbor, Chefs Stiles and Weinerth have operated on these principles from the beginning, sourcing the locally fished, farmed and harvested ingredients from the best seasonal farms and producers in Maine. They then prepare the menu with cooking techniques that preserve the foods integrity and nutrition. The final product is enhanced by optimizing nutritional value via product combination and menu diversity.Midcoast Maine is the beneficiary of a cornucopia of retired/relocated professionals who have left banking or IT to go back to the land and Chef Stiles – who grew up on a farm in local Lincolnville, just up the road -- has built relationships with local farms and other food purveyors, sourcing ingredients like the fresh Aroostook beets and lavender-honey chevre from Tourmaline Hill Farm, greens from the hothouse built by a drummer from the band Phish and cheese from the State of Maine Cheese Company, a business created by a Manhattan banker in Rockland. It's an exciting time to be in the restaurant business and especially exciting to be part of what’s happening here, says Chef Stiles.

Restaurant 88 was a very nice and service was excellent! Very attentive wait staff and patient with the kids. Order the beef tenderloin - it melts in your mouth.

“Beautiful view, beautiful food!”
Reviewed July 16, 2013

We celebrated an anniversary at Spruce Point Inn's "88" restaurant...it is the more formal dining room (as opposed to Bogie's, which is a casual, sports-bar type restaurant). Upon arrival, we were offered a complimentary glass of champagne (they did not know at that point this was anniversary)...everyone is offered the champagne. We had a cocktail and they brought an amuse bouche of gazpacho that was excellent. My husband ordered their Damariscotta oysters (from the Glen Cove bed, our waitress said). He has eaten oysters all over the world and pronounced these the best he'd ever had. They were huge and very meaty. I had the Signature salad, which was almost too pretty to eat with its red and yellow nasturtiums and creamy goat cheese atop the micro greens. We both ordered the Lobster, which was served with the tail split and the claws removed and partly cracked. For the knuckles, you're on your own. This was served with corn off the cob, fingerling potatoes, and the obligatory drawn butter. Our lobsters were probably 2-pounders, or close to it, and they were excellent. For desert we succumbed to the hot fudge brownie sundae.
A really memorable dinner in a beautiful setting. Last but not least, the service was absolutely perfect.

“Spruce Point 88 (not Bogie's)”
Reviewed July 8, 2013

We chose Spruce Point's 88 Restaurant for our only fancy meal during our one-night July 4 stay in Boothbay largely because it was out of town and thus parking would be easy. Eating at 7pm meant we got a table overlooking the harbor and could watch all the preparations for the festivities.
The food and service were very good, too! Started us off with a complimentary glass of bubbly which my wife stayed with through the dinner, followed by a single scallop 'amuse-bouche'. We each had excellent seafood appetizers and entrees, with no need for dessert. The server was attentive but not hovering and the wine list is varied and well-organized. Only negative is that the Maine 'Cellardoor' wines are overpriced relative to the other offerings.

“Beautiful location, overpriced food”
Reviewed July 6, 2013

We found the food to be only mediocre. It wasn't particularly great, and the portions were small, but the prices were quite high.

Dear Guest,

I am sorry that you felt SPI was overpriced and the portions were small. The opinions and reviews of fellow guests visiting SPI are significantly different than yours. I follow our surveys very closely and the Inn has been receiving high marks. So this tells me that for most diners, we are hitting the mark.

I personally dine at the Inn restaurants with other guests once a week and I am very proud and pleased with our product and service.

I recognize that we are not going to please every guest, as hard as we try to do so. I emailed with you this morning and I appreciate your time.
