Blue Heron Seaside Inn

This was our first time staying at the Blue Heron, and now we plan to make it an annual event! We stayed on the top floor which had a huge deck with gorgeous views of the entire harbor and very comfortable cushioned wicker furniture in addition to a cute white iron bistro set. When we opened the door to our room, I said "I can't believe how warm and inviting this room looks!" The room was large and spotless, the bed and pillows were extremely comfortable, and we even had a refrigerator/freezer and microwave. Breakfasts were to die for as were the homemade chocolate chip cookies provided in the afternoons. Laura and Phil were excellent hosts and made us feel right at home. Phil's recommendations for dining out as well as his directions on the best roads to take to the places we wanted to visit in the area were spot on and much appreciated. The private off road parking and the fact that the inn is only a block away from the shops made this the ideal place to stay. We wouldn't dream of staying anywhere else in Boothbay Harbor!

Room Tip: If you are staying on the top floor, walk around front from the parking area and use the front door...

My Husband and I decided to try a different area along the New England coast for our summer vacation and chose The Blue Heron Seaside Inn due to it's location right near the water in Boothbay Harbor, being close to town and due to the nice, spacious rooms we reviewed on the website. When we first came into town, we were immediately struck with a sense of excitement as we saw the water nearby and how quaint the town seemed to be. When we arrived at our destination we found the inn to be very charming. We were greeted by Phillip, one of the owners (his wife Laura was not there at the time) and he was very nice and set forth on welcoming us and making us feel at home plus regaling us with his stories of past times and local goings on. We stayed in the Seafoam Suite which was beautifully decorated and we just loved it. Everything about the inn seems lovingly restored, taken care of and clean. From the antiques acquired overseas to the little touches like chocolates in a dish in the foyer, there wasn't anything you could not like about this Inn (keep in mind that this Inn is not handicap accessible and there are many stairs in and out back/3 flights to climb, no elevator, depending on what floor you are on). The rooms are very spacious and we loved having that extra bedroom in our suite. Each room has a nice covered, balcony overlooking the water and the Inn was very quiet. I do not think it really can accommodate kids (perhaps one older one with the extra bedroom suite) and we prefer it that way. There are 6 rooms and so it is not a noisy, busy family type of place, again, what we preferred as a couple. We had a delicious breakfast each morning awaiting us with tea or coffee at one of the small tables near the entry way or you could take a few minutes to walk to town and have a meal there where there were many restaurants to choose from. That was a perk! There are cute shops to enjoy shopping in and plenty of seafood fare and one fabulous Italian restaurant (Ports of Italy) that you shouldn't miss. We highly recommend this Inn for couples or even solo individuals if you like a quiet, romantic and seaside type of getaway!

Room Tip: If you cannot climb stairs or have health issues, the top 3rd floor may not be the best choice. If...

We arrived in Boothbay after wonderful stays and accommodations in Bar Harbor and Camden Maine. We had high expectations and we weren't disappointed. It was our first trip to BBH and the Inn is easy to find but don't trust your Garmin. Our older model would have sent us the wrong way on a one way street- the GPS's fault obviously.

Previous reviews are spot on: Laura and Phil are wonderful and informative hosts- giving us advise on where to eat and where to go. The Inn is extremely comfortable. Nicely decorated from the host's world travels. Our room- the Seafoam suite #6 was well described by marigoldpe below: 2 rooms separated by the bathroom. It works fine as a family suite- spacious by most standards but maybe not good for 2 couples. Laura was clear when we made reservations that the layout may not work for some, but it was great for our family.

The breakfasts were great with granola, fruit, juice coffee and a hot dish (French toast one morning, a fritata-like dish the other morning). They were very accommodating to our children's food allergies and made a special dish each day for both of our kids.

The Inn has 2 kayaks for the guests which we used when we could. The tides in Maine are much greater than in the Mid-Atlantic and when it goes out....well....the shoreline retreats about 200yds from the dock. It was no biggie- we just had to wait for it to come back in.

The town is just a 2 minute walk away...keep this in mind because many accommodations require a long walk or drive. I didn't add any pictures because the pictures already submitted really do represent what you will see....no surprises there.

Room Tip: Take a drive out to Ocean Point in East Boothbay- easy to find. I has a lot of lobster but apparentl...

We stayed in the Admiral's Rest for 3 nights. Phil's warm welcome encouraged us to explore the region. His knowledge of the best dining proved to be top notch. Our room lived up to high expectations with a fantastic view and comfortable furnishings. The Blue Heron is a great base for exploring the region both on and off the water. A gem of a place and certainly well worth exploring off the beaten track. Many thanks, Phil and Laura. Brad and Jo, manchester, England.

Friendly and comfortable. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our room was on the top floor so we enjoyed fabulous views across Boothbay Harbour. We loved having breakfast up on the deck as well as the afternoon's homemade cookies.
Rooms are beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean and the inn is within excellent walking distance of the shops, restaurants and the town's attractions.
We hope to return one day as we enjoyed three relaxing nights in this lovely place.

We arrived at 2 pm and our room was ready for us and what an amazing room, actually two rooms for the price of one. The first room was spacious enough for a king size bed, a sofa and two easy chairs plus lots of wlking around space and ample storage. It had a double glass door and double window that led us to a deck with comfy chairs and a small table with 2 more chairs. The second room was small but adequate and had a double bed. In between, was a large bathroom. We also had a small frig, coffee maker and supplies. The inn has 6 units in total, I think. Ours was on the top floor, 4 flights up. We didn't mind the climb but if stairs are a problem take a lower floor. The breakfasts were good. There was one hot choice daily plus fruits, cereals, muffins or fresh baked breads. The host, Phil, was available and friendly. We took his recommendation for places to dine and were never disappointed. Our other host, Laura, greeted us warmly and took care of their beautiful flowers. The inn is within an easy walk to hundreds of shops, restaurants, galleries and the 8 or so piers. We loved everything about this charming inn. The best things about a b & b without any of the negatives. We stayed 4 nights and hated to leave.

The Blue Heron B & B is a short 5 minute walk to the downtown harbor. It is a very good location with free parking in the rear. Phil & Laura are excellent hosts. They will give you suggestions on what to do and where to eat and are always ready to serve you.
We stayed in Room # 1, the Sandpiper. It was immaculate, roomy with a covered porch. It has central a/c and was very comfortable since the temps were in the 90's.
We enjoyed the scrumptious breakfast each morning. We highly recommend the Blue Heron.
