“A Little Gem of a Inn”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 20, 2009

This hotel was the surprise delight of our trip to New England. situated on the quiet side of the small coastal Maine town of Boothbay Harbor it has direct access to the cross harbour walkway which leads to the main part of town. Style wise the Inn is the typical modern wooden board construction typical of the area. What sells the place however is it's location right on the waterside over looking the harbour and main part of town.

We were lucky in that we asked in advance for a room over looking the harbour and as such got a second floor room with a balcony a place we spent a considerable time sitting on, enjoying the view, the general peace and quiet, and waving to the boats going by. The room itself was fine, roomy, clean, nice big bathroom, and comfy beds.

We were slightly out of season so the hotel was quiet, the one night we used the inn's waterside restaurant we were one of three couples in a room built for close to a hundred. the food was typical steak and seafood offered in the area, good but not spectacular. The view however lived up to this. A nice touch if your old romantics like us was the pianist playing live in the restaurant. One word of warning even in season the restaurant closes at 9 p.m., off season 7:30 p.m. so if you intend to use it either get in early or make a reservation.

One thing I must say was all the staff we dealt with were helpful beyond expectation, and came over as really caring about their guests and more than willing to help whenever possible.

It's worth noting the Inn offers a free buffet breakfast but unless you can make do with a bagel, muffin, or pastry and a cup of coffee on the run it's better to take the 5 minute walk into town for a proper cooked New England breakfast feast complete with the often home made cinnamon rolls.

We fell in love with this little town on the coast of Maine, and look forward to returning one day. As such we'd be more than happy to stay at the Boothbay Harbor Inn again.

Great view. Comfortable rooms, a super free breakfast!

I think they were under new management...things seemed just a bit disorganized. In fact...I have JUST now been billed for a meal in the restaurant for a meal that was 5 months ago! The freezer had died the day before so the selection for dinner was very limited.

A little loud at night...the building next door had a very large group that was late nigh partying.

We stayed during the Memorial Day weekend (2008).
Sunday night the mood of the hotel turned into a frathouse!!!
There were people doing things that you would not want your kids to hear and a picture frame was knocked off our wall. I will let you guess how. If you are looking for a quiet weekend, please stay with the B&B's. Do not take your kids here. There were people partying until all hours of the night and people yelling in the hallways as well. There is nobody at the front desk at night, so it is unlikely that you will get anyone to help you out. We contemplated driving home around 2 AM, but we were too tired. The twin beds are not comfortable either. We stay in Boothbay several times a year, and will do all we can do to direct people elsewhere.
1. NOISY!
2. RUDE SERVICE
3. ANTIQUATED ROOMS
4. NO WIRELESS SERVICE

We came back last week from a three-day stay at the Boothbay Harbor Inn. I am still upset.
The room comes with continental breakfast. The first day, we ate in the dark little "lounge" and bussed our own table that we had to wait for. There are only about five or so tables for guests. They had bagels, muffins, etc. and plastic utensils. No management is in attendance.
I noticed that there were busboys setting tables in the dining room with a view of the harbor that was off limits to us. I asked the front desk about eating our breakfast in the dining room, the sales manager said " of course you can eat in there" I asked why no one was in there, she said it was their choice.
The next day, we carried our bagels and paper plates into the dining room to find we could only sit at the little bar tables. I thought well, at least we can see the view we are paying for.
The last morning as we were getting our bagels, the bus boy saw me and locked the door to the dining room! I called over to him and said that that we were told we could eat in there. He said that the day before we left a mess on the table and we were not to eat there! My husband finally told him to open the door. He stormed off to the front desk.
The sales manager said she would pass on my complaint after I told her about the rude and inappropriate behavior we received.
I did get a call from the Inn. After making excuses like, "she had never seen him behave like that before, and the dining room is for our bus trip guests", she said she would speak with him.
I was so upset at the nerve of this man to look right at me, lock the door to the dining room, and then argue with me about it! I also felt as if the management didn't believe me.
I called the Inn again to follow up on what the outcome or consequences to the busboy were. No response. I guess "speaking" is all that they felt was necessary.
It was a very upsetting episode.
Stay at the RockTide Inn next door, they have a full buffet breakfast in the dining room, view of the bay, real silverware, busboys that work hard and a pleasant staff.

We just got back from a week on the coast of maine. What a beautiful place. We had a wonderful time except for the Boothday Harbor Inn in Boothday. I had spent hours on the computer trying to find the best places to stay. I called the hotel and requested a harbor view king room. When I received the confirmation in the mail, the price was almost exactly what I had been quoted. When we arrived at the hotel, we were given a "deluxe" double room by the parking lot looking at the footbridge. Hardly what I would call a harbor view. I was very upset but the reception people could care less!!! Too bad, so sad..... They did nothing to help out the situation. The room was sloppy, screen door bent. I was so glad to leave there the next day!
Good news: the Upper Deck Cafe is a wonderful place for breakfast. We ate there several mornings. Kalers is a great place for happy hour 3-5. Dollar drafts and very friendly service!
Several days later we were back in Boothday Harbor and stayed at Brown's Wharf Hotel. Now that is a great place!! We had a room on the 3rd floor facing the harbor. It was beautiful and the service and staff were terrific. Loved the balcony and view. Anxious to go back there anytime!
