“Delightful Sailing”
Review of Balmy Days Cruises

Balmy Days Cruises
Ranked #6 of 15 Tours in Boothbay Harbor

We took the 1-1/2 hour sailboat ride in Boothbay Harbor-- it was heavenly. We love sailing and have tried them all. This boat is smaller and faster than the schooners Eastwind or Lazy Jack, so it allows the captain to lean into the wind on a breezy day. It only seats about 14-16 passengers, so it's an intimate, cozy ride. Sailing in Boothbay Harbor is an exquisite experience!

We went mackerel fishing on the Miss Boothbay, a 33 foot long lobster boat. The two hour fishing excursion includes everything, and no permits are required. The price is incredibly reasonable. The mackerel were plentiful, the crew helpful, the open boat fun to work on. The tour is short, only two hours - but for a first time fishing trip with children, it can't be beat. I would say you have to try very hard NOT to catch anything.

I would do this again, and my daughter is still talking about how this was the highlight of her trip.

Be aware that mackerel bleed like crazy, so be prepared to get dirty. Also there is no food, water, or bathroom on the boat. Also be sure to use sunscreen!

The day trip to Monhegan Island on the Balmy Days II is a wonderful excursion to a tiny Island ten miles out in the Atlantic. This is an isolated community of artists and fishermen that should not be missed. You may spy a seal or even a whale during the voyage out and back.

We took a Scenic Harbor Cruise. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the area and you could tell that he really liked what he was doing. By the way, on our tour around the harbor, we found a lobster pound, Atlantic Edge, which is noted for shipping lobster. So we ordered some lobster to be sent back to Illinois. We just received the shipment and it was perfectly packed--and the four lobsters were delicious! We highly recommend Balmy Day Cruises and Atlantic Edge.

We took the Scenc Harbor Tour and it was great way to see the sights. Recommend this if you want to see the coastline and all the nice homes.
