“Buyer Beware!”
Reviewed October 11, 2010

We went to Boothbay Harbor in mid-September (whale season), and saw nothing. In fact, the entire experience was 3 hours and by the end of it most people were either sleeping or (in my case) seasick. Now, I know there are no guarantees, whales are wild animals, etc. However, in holding to their "whale sighting guarantee", this Whale Watch offered my boyfriend and me vouchers for another 3-hour trip with no guarantees after the long ride. I would keep an eye out for whales traveling around the islands off of BH or on your clambake, but I consider this a $75 mistake!

“I HATE this place!”
Reviewed September 17, 2010

Their website is wrong. 3 weeks ago, I made reservations to take a whale tour for Friday, Sep 17, 2010. I made the reservations over the telephone and talked directly to a representative. This morning, my wife and I got up and travelled almost 5 hours to make the 11:30 departure time, only finding out when we got to the ticket booth, that there was NO whale tour on Fridays. Not only does their website say that there ARE whale tours Tues thru Sat, but the ticket rep on the phone confirmed the date with me more than once! The agent at the booth was very rude, offered no apology of any kind, and smugly added that if there had been a whale tour today, it would have been cancelled anyway due to high seas. When I told the ticket rep that their website said something different than he was saying to me, he said that that wasn't his job to update the website. When I discussed my problem with the hotel manager next door, he told me that they are constantly changing their schedules, and I am not the first person that has had this experience. This whale boat tour was supposed to be the highlight of a 2 week New England vacation, and now I feel as if it has been totally ruined.

The Boothbay Whale Watch would like to respond to your complaint. First and foremost, you did not talk to any ticket agent or representative of the Boothbay Whale Watch when making your reservation. You booked a package through Fisherman's Wharf Inn and spoke with a representative from the Inn. We contacted all our passengers who had made reservations for Friday's whale watch notifying them days ahead of time of our schedule change.

Secondly, our website was currently being updated, which is what our ticket representative was explaining to you. The information had been changed, but did not go live yet. On our website, under our trip schedule, in bold, blue letters it states, "TIMES AND SCHEDULE ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE" It also states, "ALL TRIPS ARE WEATHER PERMITTING". We would not have had a whale watch on Friday, due to high winds and rough seas offshore. The NOAA Marine Forcast for Friday was 15-20 knot winds, with gusts up to 25 knots and seas 5-8 ft. We cancel whale watches if the seas are over 4ft for the comfort and safety of our passengers on board.

We regret that you cancelled your room and did not stay to go whale watching with us today. It was a great trip off shore with Minke whales, Harbor Porpoise, Harbor Seals and Blue Fin Tuna.

“Good boat ride”
Reviewed September 5, 2010

Our week in Maine happened during a hot spell, so the water was a great place to cool off. The boat was clean and comfortable. Sadly, we did not see a single whale on our trip. When this happens, you are given a voucher that never expires for another whale watch trip, or any of the other tours offered by the company. Even though we did not see any whales, it was still a very enjoyable afternoon on the water. Also, our guide was very knowledgeable about the marine life and answered any questions that came up.

“Great fun and saw whales”
Reviewed August 2, 2010

We took two trips on Cap'n Fish's Whale Watch and had a great time on both cruises. We saw two minke whales the first day but the seas were rough but the ride was fun. The second day, the seas were calm and we saw several finbacks and a couple more minke whales. This was great fun! The boats are clean and the guides and captain were very knowledgeable.
