“Pleasant Surprise”
Reviewed July 22, 2014

We've been to Maine numerous times and have passed through Boothbay but have never stayed. This time I figured we'd give it a try and looked at other reviews of this property on TripAdvisor that all indicated that the property was top-notch. So I booked and when we got there, was pleasantly surprised at the seclusion and beauty of the area where the inn was located, and how charming the buildings and grounds were. The inn is dog-friendly, so we were able to bring our dogs with us and there was plenty of room to walk them on the paths between buildings and across lawns. The room was large, as was the bathroom and there was even a front porch for our room. Four of us stayed in the room and were very comfortable. We all had treatments in the spa which was able to accomodate us on short notice. My husband and I had the couples massage that was in a tented area right on the beach so that we could hear and smell the ocean. The staff was friendly, helpful and appeared to hail from a variety of different countries, which gave the inn an international feel. We had a great time and will definitely go back.

We stayed at the resort before we picked our kids up from camp. The resort was beyond our expectations. The attention to detail, the cleanliness and the location are truly exceptional. The staff is very attentive and cannot do enough for the guests. The resort offers endless possibilities for summer seaside fun. The ferry to town was one of the highlights as the captain pointed out wildlife we would not have noticed. The views from are spectacular. The hotel dining options are varied and all good. The prices are reasonable which makes the stay even more relaxing. We will be back next year!

We were so fortunate to get a last minute room at Spruce Point. We loved everything about it! The rooms, the grounds, the restaurant, the pool and the hot tub (on the bay!!!), the kayaks and the boat shuttle to & from town! We only wish we could have stayed longer....

We were celebrating our twins fourteenth birthday and Ben and Luis at the front desk helped squeeze us in when we basically showed up at thier doorstep and saved our vacation getting us a perfect town house suite that accomodated our family of five with room to spare. We could not have asked for a better place to spend our vacation. Everyone was great from Mike the waiter, to the head chef TImothy that cooked the mackeral that my son caught out at the dock. Luis. at the front desk even made sure that our twins had a chocolate cake delivered our table at dinner.
The location is amazing and even though the rooms are on the pricey side, everything is included...fishing poles, kayaks, tennis, shuffle board, arcade games, even boat rides into town. We have spent many a vaction at other luxurysummer resorts , visiting the Chatham Bars Inn and the Wequasett Resort over a half dozen times and my family, hands down said they would rather spend our next summer vacation at the Spruce Point Inn...so we will be back. Thanks again for some great memories.

Room Tip: The Townhouse rooms have 2 bedrooms 3 bathrooms and a huge upstairs with full kithen , fireplace and...

The grounds are beautiful, and the amenities are plentiful.

There were some maintenance (e.g. plumbing) and communication issues with staff, but we hope that these were anomalies due to a busy holiday weekend with multiple events on-site and bad weather. We did receive a small credit for some of the inconvenience.

We book our trips with a special eye toward convenient in-room food preparation, since our family includes two people with extensive food allergies. We were surprised by the very tiny size of the "kitchenette" in our cottage, which made it impossible to wash and dry any dishes. (The kitchenette was no more than a couple of feet, square--a burner or two with a sink and no counter space.) There was no dish soap when we arrived (though there was a sponge), but the housekeeping staff quickly provided soap when we requested it. Since we were a larger group (the unit had three bedrooms), we wound up driving into town to buy paper towels and disposable dinnerware. We imagine most folks keen on preparing meals would want to do the same or bring their own.

This was a very pretty location for a wedding, and those with large budgets might find it to be an awesome place for a family reunion. Lots of options for adults and kids alike. Here's hoping some of the glitches we experienced in customer service were one-time issues!

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with Spruce Point. I am pleased that overall the Inn exceeded your expectations. We will continue to work to receive those 2 extra stars on your next visit.

I am sorry that the kitchenette in your cottage did not provide the level of service you needed this time. I understand and agree that the kitchenettes are not appropriate for preparing regular meals. I'll review our materials and reservations process to determine how this may have been missed when you booked this years visit.

For future guests, most all of the cottages and cottage rooms do have a kitchenette, which is perfect for a lite bite for the kids, but not for serving a family meal. Please refer to the cottages section and images on the Inn website. This unit is the Tanager Cottage.

For your next stay, let's consider the Starboard and Osprey Cottages along with the Townhouse residences, which each have a full kitchen and dining area. These would be perfect for you.

The July holiday week was quite unusual this year as there was a record rainfall and of all things some tropical activity just offshore. The fireworks were cancelled, twice. While the surveys and online reviews indicate that the guest experience at SPI did not miss a beat, I understand that mistakes can be made and I apologize for any of our missteps.

When considering your return visit, please contact me.

Sincerely,

Angelo DiGiulian

We made great use of the bikes and kayaks they have available for guests, and enjoyed the perfect weather and beautiful landscape. While it is decidedly family friendly, the restaurants and spa were appropriate for a young couple too. Staff was extremely friendly and I thought it was a great value- we'd love to come back.
