“Classic NE Clambake in a great setting”

Day trip to Boothbay Harbor ME to meet friends and take in great clambake. Short boat ride out to the island with the Capt pointing out harbor highlights. The island offers a rustic setting that is quickly explored as the clambake steams away. This is a family run operation where you are warmly greeted ashore by one of the sons and then by the family 94 year old matriarch who still works in the gift shop. We settled into one of the many picnic tables where the young wait staff got us beverages and then a great seafood chowder some of the best I have ever had. A short time later the horn is sounded and you go get your lobsters and steamers. The line moves quick and the food is done perfectly. The wait staff remains attentive and the meal is capped off with a very tasty homemade blueberry cake. After the meal you have time to relax and explore some more until the boat takes you back to Boothbay. All in all a rest day I'll be back

Having made well over 10 visits to Cabbage Island Clambakes,I have to say it is an experience not to be missed! I echo the other reviews about the food, ambiance, and friendliness of the Moore family and staff. Been on the noon trips and the late afternoon trips, and they both are great fun!
Always a treat.

The Moore family has run Cabbage Island Clambakes for many years now, offering a daily long-way run to the island on the Bennie Alice, followed by a seafood (chicken for those allergic to shellfish) feast in true Maine style. After a 40 minutes cruise to Cabbage Island, you debark for shore, find yourself a table either outside under the sun, outside under the lodge's awning, or inside if it's raining, and socialize. A cash bar is available, with the full understanding that the costs will be higher than the mainland, and soon afterwards the bell rings and chowdah is served. The cup of clam chowdah was tasty, but a bit thin in the broth, with a good mix of clams, potatoes, and stuff. Once soup is finished, you're invited down to the edge of the water to collect your two (yes, two) 1 lb lobsters, steamed clams, boiled egg and baked potato, and steamed ear of corn. Clams were properly cooked and tender, and these folks know how to cook lobstah. The meat picked out of our soft shells was delectable and sweet, as was the accompanying ear of corn. For those who like their items smothered in melted butter, there's plenty of that to go around. If the meal isn't enough, there's always a large piece of blueberry cake and coffee for dessert. You roll yourself back down the dock to the Bennie Alice, and you're whisked away on the shorter route back to land where you won't have to eat for at least another 24 hours. A day on Cabbage Island with good friends and new company is truly a day to remember.

Great trip, even lots of locals love it. Wonderful boat tour of the harbor, then AMAZING double lobster lunch served by a super friendly extended family.

Great day trip. Great value. Great way to spend the day. Tour of the harbor and clambake on private 16 acre island (2 lobsters/person, steamers, vegetables, blueberry cake) for a very low cost per person. Also have to mention the people and family that run the island are extremely nice and the service is fantastic. Really great people.
