The Tugboat Inn is old school in its decor and traditional in its menu - appealing qualities to those of us who return to Boothbay Harbor and the Tugboat Inn restaurant year after year. It's comforting to know that we can rely on Tugboat Inn for good food with great harbor views - it's like having dinner at an old friend's house on vacation.

A perennial favorite of ours is the sauteed lobster in creamy butter (what they used to call on the menu the "lazyman's lobster). Lobster picked from the shell and prepared as simply as described, but exceptionally delicious. We look forward to enjoying this on our first night in Boothbay Harbor every year. The scallops or haddock Monhegan, as well as the seafood pie are also very good. The blueberry pie was thoroughly enjoyable.

My one disappointment, however slight, is the limited beer selection. On the upside, Tugboat Inn offers several varieties from Maine-based Cellardoor Winery - I very much enjoyed and recommend the Zinfandel. They also offer take-home bottles for purchase.

At the tugboat Inn restaurant, you enter through an actual 100 year old converted tugboat, and then proceed to a dining room overlooking the harbor. We had a very nice salad and bowls of thick, creamy and delicious lobster chowder, with hot rolls. This was the perfect meal for this rainy evening. Service was a bit sketchy and slow, but the food was excellent. The menu offerings are quite limited compared to some of the other restaurants in the harbor, but if you want a sure bet for lobster stew, you won't go wrong.

We stayed at the Tugboat Inn so this was an easy choice for dinner. Arrived at 5:30 to get a window seat. Had luscious lobster, of course! Restaurant itself is not the fanciest place, but the views and ambiance were great!

Stayed in the hotel so ate in the restaurant the first night. Asked for a bottle of Argentinian maybe and instead of room temp it was very hot, ugh. We both decided to try the Harbour platter of deep fried shrimps haddock and scallops. The shrimps were the tiny king and the batter overwhelmed them and made them greasy. The haddock and the scallops would have been nice but I was then feeling query from all the fat (my problem for ordering I know) but it ruined the massive scallops I think and the baked potato tasted crumbly. Wouldn't go again I'm afraid although the staff and the view were both nice.
