Owner description: Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens is a natural wonder on 270 acres of shorefront in mid-coast Maine. Strolling through spectacular ornamental gardens and traversing miles of waterfront and woodland trails, visitors are delighted by the beautiful plantings, impressive stonework, waterfalls and fountains, and scenic views. It's no wonder the Gardens have been hailed as one of Maine's top three attractions. The Gardens are open 9-5 April 15 - October 31 (open until 6 pm in July and August). There is a cafe and gift shop on site. A visit at any time is a memorable experience.
Useful Information: Bathroom facilities, Activities for young children, Wheelchair access, Food available for purchase, Activities for older children

The gardens are lovely, but we ended up going through the educational center (and a significantly longer walk for our wheelchair pusher because we missed the turn out of the children's garden). Suggested some additional signage to improve the experience.
The Lerner sensory garden is beautifully arranged as are the gardens around the great lawn. Do go to the Alfond children's garden even if you are out of that age range because it will bring you back! The sculpture has been chosen with care and enhances the experience.

If you visit here arrive before 3:00 pm or you will receive a lecture on how late you are and make sure to be back on time. We close at 5:00 and we expect you back in the visitors center by 4:50. We do not want to have to come looking for you. Then she spent 15 minutes showing us on the map what we wanted to see. She had no idea what WE wanted to see. Ruined the garden for us.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your experience. We were disappointed to hear you felt rushed by our staff. We are looking to identify ways we can give everyone the best possible experience so hearing your comments is very helpful. One thing we're considering is a two-day pass or a "come back again tomorrow" voucher for guests who arrive later in the day. We'll use the winter season to determine how best to accomplish something like this. Please accept our apology for being lectured and we hope you'll give us another opportunity to give you an amazing guest experience.

This garden was such a surprise. Having been developed in the early 90's it is sparkling. Each area was beautiful and the art work - sculptures, stabiles, garden gates were extraordinary. I could have spent a week there. The children's garden is great and the gift shop has some nice things in it. Would love to take all my garden loving friends here.

This place is not only lovely, but so very educational too. We started with a nice walk in the woods, where there were descriptions of the various plants (and other natural sights) every so often. I enjoyed sitting and reading a good book under a grape arbor and out on the lawn sunning in an Adirondack chair, while my wife visited the children's garden. There are wonderful sights everywhere, and it also has a terrific gift shop and a cafeteria-style restaurant. Don't miss it!
