We enjoyed a nice evening there whilst attempting a "bar crawl" through Blue Hill...not too many options, but that's ok! MUCH bigger inside than you'd think, judging from the street. The bar portion was hopping with lots of locals. Friendly staff, clean, with nice decor, the beer prices were awesome ($3.75 a piece for the pints we ordered). Shots of Jack were $6 a piece, as were the "Jack & Cokes". Will definitely be returning to try their menu and look forward to scoping out their Sunday Brunch!

In a small coastal town like Blue Hill, Maine, a new dining option is always welcome. So, I decided to try the recently opened Black Anchor Village Pub, which recently opened at a restaurant site on Main Street that was previously Jonathan's, then the Blue Moose. It has a small dining area at entry level, then another in the upstairs bar area in back; it's the same basic configuration as in its last two incarnations.

Food: Okay. The menu is a standard-fare coastal menu, with reasonable options. I was not in a mood for fine dining, so ordered the steak bomb. It was excellent. Fries were done right, Chris's service was great, the sandwich had lots of steak and trimmings and was very satisfying.

Drinks: The robber baron presides. So why only a rating of 2? One reason: The owner is greedy when it comes to alcohol. I ordered a shot of Oban, a great single malt Scotch that came as anticipated and satisfied my taste. What was ridiculous was the $15 charge. It's a good Scotch and it's in the low $60s per bottle; but in some of the best restaurants on the Eastern Seaboard, I've never bee charged more than $9 to $12. The Black Anchor owner's exorbitant price soured the whole experience. I will certainly not return--especially when there's a restaurant three or four doors down the street that has food that's at least as good--and has far friendlier drink prices.

A suggestion if you want to try the Black Anchor: check prices before ordering drinks.

What a surprise to find this place in Blue Hill! We love beer and pub food, and this place delivered. There were excellent microbrews to choose from, including a few summer ales, IPA, and an experimental maple beer. We had the best scotch egg EVER as an appetizer. That was followed up with two fish dishes -- the fish sandwich and fish & chips. The pieces of fish were large, fresh, and not overcooked. Chris, the bartender, was friendly and seriously hustling to keep up with the crowd. We'll be back!

The food is great with excellent prices. We had a party of 6 everyone was very happy with their meals. Try the clam fritters YUMMY!!! Oh and the anchor steak is great too.

Finally there is a restaurant in this beautiful little town that offers live music, great food, great beers on tap and even a separate dining area for people who want a more intimate setting. I went there with my girlfriend on opening night. She had a delicious crab roll ( a staple in restaurants in the area). I had a portobella burger, also delicious. They have vegetarian meals, not just one, but several to pick from, and they all have some thought put into them, not just a meal without meat, like some places offer for vegetarian fare..The service was great, surprising for an opening night. We'll be back there soon!
