“The best place to eat within miles of Blue Hill”
Reviewed September 13, 2010

We ate at Arborvine for the third time this August, and it seemed better than ever. A great menu, outstanding service, and delicious food. I had a special duck entree that only could be described as fabulous. Our waitress was most pleasant, and the whole experience was excellent.

“Vinery”
Reviewed August 6, 2010

We ate at the Vinery (the more casual restaurant owned by the Arborvine) in early August 2010. It was very pleasant and made me regret we hadn't gotten reservations for the Arborvine).
Steak, large salad, nice desert, all reasonably priced and very good. In the background there was a good pianist playing. A nice evening.

Delightfully, dependably excellent. From a New Year's eve splurge in the more formal dining room to casual summer dining at The Vinery, chef John Hecate is consistantly pleasing. His wife, Beth, is the most gracious front-of-house manager we've ever met.

“Delicious food in a warm and welcoming home”
Reviewed June 28, 2010

We were greeted like old friends by Beth, the lovely hostess/owner and wife of the supremely talented Chef John. The two fireplaces were not lit but still lent a refined ambiance to our table nearby; in cooler weather, they are. We had lovely salads of local greens from the Farmer's Market, w/homemade dressings that were perfect, not too tart, not sweet. Garnished with flowers from the chef's garden. Then the BEST halibut, pan seared to perfection and moist w/ a crisp, light crust. And lamb, local-sourced, seasoned just right and medium rare as requested w/fresh herbs and light sauce. Dessert was a seasonal rhubarb and strawberry crisp, w/homemade ice cream. After a month in France eating throughout Burgundy and Paris, Arborvine did not disappoint. Perfect!

“Another wonderful evening!”
Reviewed December 7, 2009

We took my inlaws to Arborvine for their 65th wedding anniversary (and our belated 12th anniversary). We come for dinner from the Bangor area a couple of times a year, and have yet to have a bad experience or anything other than a wonderful meal. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and flexible. The food is just delicious, and the wine list (so my husband says) makes choosing just one difficult. It's our "special occasion" place to go.
