“Perfect romantic getaway”

This is a lovely little in-town getaway filled with antiques. The room was comfortable, elegant, and well outfitted. It is run by an elegant Englishman named Lawrence with whom I had many pleasant conversations. He serves up great breakfasts with many homemade items.
There are 3 very nice restaurants that are within walking distance, and one pub style place.
We were up for the Fall color, and a little hiking that was nearby. We would highly recommend this inn.

We were travelling around New England for two weeks with no accomodation pre booked. We luckily found Austin's B&B in Bethel and booked in for one night. The check in experience was unique yet excellent. Laurence introduced himself, showed the room available as well as the complimentary tea/coffee/home made cookies available all day as well as after dinner drinks, all available in the homely lounge. I felt at home right away. When I first saw the room, right inside the front door, I was worried about noise from other guests but there was no problem at all. We ended up staying three nights in total as we planned quite a lot of activities in Bethel. The bedroom was comfortable, spacious and tastefully decorated with a really comfortable bed. Two bottles of water and little chocolates were provided every day.
The best thing about this B&B was the breakfast, the whole experience. We were offered fresh juice, followed by melon and little home made scones then followed by our choice from the large menu. Honestly, this was the best breakfast in the whole of New England, all home cooked by Laurence who seems to enjoy every minute of cooking and running the B&B. After this breakfast we did not need to eat until evening apart from the cookies and tea provided at the B&B.
After our stay in the Holidae B&B we compared it to every other Inn/ motel/ B&B that we stayed in and not one came close.
This is a really top class B&B, it has the whole package of comfort, value, fantasic home cooking and is truly unique. I just get the impression that Laurence and Marcia really enjoy running the B&B.
A great stay and would def recommend this to anyone.

We absolutely loved meeting and staying with Lawrence and Marsha. They are so delightful to chat with. The inn is charming and so beautifully decorated. Lawrence made us whatever we wanted for breakfast and it was yummy. We so enjoyed the selection of after dinner drinks that were available for us. This inn should be #1 in Bethel !!!!

Holidae House is a real find in the charming town of Bethel. The inn is comfortable, well managed, and equipped with many extra comforts. Our room and the common areas were thoughtfully renovated, while still maintaining the special character that is found in great B&Bs. Best of all, the innkeepers, Laurence and Marcia, are just terrific - warm, welcoming, and generous hosts, It was great fun to have a conversation with them over the excellent breakfast they provided. The Inn is centrally located in Bethel - a great place to wander around, with a morning's worth of interesting shops, and recreation areas nearby.

Austin's Holidae House is set right in the centre of Bethel, within walking distance of most of the amenities you could need. The inn itself is a beautiful period house, furnished in a stylish and sympathetic manner. The room we had was tranquil and beautiful, exceedingly comfortable bed, lovely linen, nice size bathroom, an array of toiletries, and a bowl of chocolates just in case we felt peckish. What sets this inn apart from the rest is the welcome given by the innkeepers Laurence and Marcia, and the little touches that they have brought to the place. Laurence is incredibly welcoming and caring about his guests, giving excellent advice on the area and good conversation - but absolutely not in an overbearing way. The breakfast is cooked to order and was delicious - blueberry pancakes made with freshly picked blueberries were fabulous, but many other delights were on offer, and every morning a different treat is waiting on your table to start you off whilst you consider what you will have next! In the afternoon, freshly baked cookies were left in the sitting room for weary guests coming in from the day's exertions. In this room there is also a drinks tray with complimentary post-dinner drinks available for guests - we had a very pleasant evening sitting reading our books, sipping a brandy and chatting with Laurence. All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and will most definitely be returning.

We found the amenities in Bethel (including the multi-screen theatre) far outweighed any other factor in comparing the town vs. the resort for lodging. Austin's Holidae House is located right in the middle of Bethel's restaurants and shopping, yet the house is protected by a mature hedge with off-street parking behind the house, affording it privacy.

HINT: If you're currently traveling without reservations, when Lawrence answers the phone, say "carpe diem." He won't mind if you mispronounce or do not understand Latin, but he will give you an rate which we found better than any, provided he has availability.

Lawrence claims he was "born to serve" and his attitude is evident everywhere at Austin's Holidae House. The rooms were amply sized and well appointed (including little dishes of chocolates). The beds and linens were top-quality and rooms refreshed daily. Lawrence seemed put-out that we wanted only fruit and coffee for breakfast, so in addition to honoring our request, he treated us with his home-made hearty granola and perfectly crumbed scones. Other Tripadvisor reviews attest to his culinary skills. Evenings were completed with cordials and cognacs in the comfortable sitting room.

The Holidae House was built over a century ago, and like all such grande dames, the size, scale and conveniences call to prior times. The master suites offer claw-footed baths and stained glass windows. Smaller rooms economize with a closet shower and commode and provide a pedestal sink in the sleeping area. Window sashes in such old homes rarely operate smoothly, so Lawrence provides the modern window-mount air conditioner as well as the old-fashioned propping stick for guests' use.

Lawrence would be aghast to learn of an inconvenience experienced by a guest. We did not mention the lack of a hair dryer in our room, though in Bethel, it appeared socially acceptable for both women and men to style coifs simply in pony tails. If you're the kind of traveller who must have a flat panel television and game controllers, Austin's Holidae House is sadly not for you (but we'd still encourage you to try it at least for one night).
