“Great Place for the Right price”
Reviewed March 20, 2008

We recently stayed at the Chapman Inn for five night while skiing at Sunday River. The owner, Fred, was wonderful, and everything was great. The rooms are good size, and the Inn was quiet enough for even a light sleeper. In the mornings, Fred prepares a wonderful breakfast, including perhaps the best muffins we've had. And the price is right. A great place to stay for the right price.

The College of Idaho Ski and Snowboard team had a great experience at the Chapman Inn. The host was most accommodating arranging breakfasts as requested. The dorm served our needs for the team extremely well as we could prepare daily meals, prepare skis, have private study space and gender specific floors for sleeping arrangements. The private rooms in the main house were clean, comfortable, and welcoming for guest interaction. Strongly recommended.

We booked our stay at this Inn based on the Internet posting and some of the reviews on this site. As a warning, the Inn is not how it appears on the internet. We booked two rooms that shared a bathroom, which worked since we were staying with our relatives. However, the rooms looked nothing like they did online. They were in need to updating, worn and depressing. It made us not want to be there much at all, which is fine since we were there to ski and the Tavern at the Bethel Inn is within easy walking distance. However, if you were planning on spending some quality time at the Inn and having a glass of wine in front of the fire, this wasn't the place for that.

We ate breakfast there one of our two mornings and did not return due to a hair found in the undercooked eggs.

The only reason this place gets an "okay" rating is because it was clean and good for walking around Bethel. But we will not be returning - there are much better places near Sunday River for the same cost.

Last week, once again,I went downeast to ski in Maine. I've always stayed at Chapman Inn. Since the early 1980"s when my
young family would get an efficiency room with stove and refrigerator to control costs, to now, when usually stay in the dorm, I enjoy the down home feeling at the Chapman Inn. The
Inn Keepers Fred and Sandy have become like family. One year
I made them a cherry cheese cake to show my appreciation for all they do.
The breakfastis outstanding, and included in the fare. It's not
fancy but it feels like home.

A wonderful B&B in downtown Bethel. The Inn's owner, Fred, cooked us an awesome breakfast and made sure we had everything we needed to ensure a relaxing weekend in his charming inn. The Chapman Inn is well
kept and is conveniently located near many fine restaurants and shops as well as Sunday River. We've stayed in other inns but would return the Chapman.

I stayed there for one night while I did business in the area. I had a great time. The place is very cozy and comfortable. Great bathroom and plenty of towels. The owners were both extremely nice and accommodating. The breakfast was awesome! Fresh fruit, homemade muffins, omelet and homefries also freshly made. I wish I could eat like that every morning. Overrall, a great place to spend the night.

As other reviews have noted, the owners have two dogs; one, a very large black shepherd lunged at my wife snapping and barking when she opened the door of this B&B to inquire about availability of rooms.

Luckily she got the door closed on the dog before it did serious damage to her.

The male owner came to the door seconds later and asked if we wanted to come in - obviously his "pet" had ruined the Chapman for us.

After my wife calmed down, we made two phone calls, one to him and one to his wife warning them of the danger the dog could cause to others who opened without warning the door as my wife had. Both calls got us denials of the event. The wife claimed she wasn't in the inn when it happened; the husband (who as noted above was at the door seconds after the dog barked and snapped) said he had not seen the event and mocked my wife's concerns for others who might open that door.

We instead stayed at a wonderful and safe B&B halfway down Main Street.
