“Great place for family adventures!”
Reviewed September 4, 2012

Our family spent last week at Sunday River and had the opportunity to meet the lovely owners and staff of Bethel Outdoor Adventure. We rented single kayaks for our family of four and paddled 10 miles down the Androscoggin River for a peaceful and wonderful time observing ducks, geese, an otter and even a bald eagle during the leisurely trip. We pulled up at one of the many islands en route and enjoyed our packed lunch.
We also booked a mine tour through BOA and we loved it. Our two boys (10 and 8) were enthralled and we all learned so much about the minerals and gems of Maine. The guide, Mr. Lyon, is incredibly knowledgeable and great with kids.
BOA owners provided so many suggestions for things to do in the area and we took their advice and loved it all. This family-run business is an ideal base to plan activities and get local tips.
We will definitely visit Bethel again and when we do, we will be stopping at BOA first to book our activities. Thank you BOA for making our Maine vacation so memorable. We will be recommending you to friends and family.

“Gilead to Bethel”
Reviewed August 14, 2012

Tour guide Dan dropped us off in Gilead (8/14/12). For 2.5 hours we never saw another human being. We did see a bald eagle which certainly made our day! The 10 mile trip can take longer or shorter depending on the flow of water (5 knots that day) and your desire to paddle. We stopped once to refresh in the cool Androscoggin. Views are fantastic (don't forget to look back to see the mountain ranges). Upon your return there are hot showers at the camp and they are only $3. You will not be disappointed.

“What Fun!”
Reviewed August 2, 2011

Renting Kayaks for our family of four-what fun! We spent the whole day paddling down the Androscoggin River, stopping to eat our packed lunches. We rented single kayaks for the kids, and tandem kayak for us. Now, paddling in sync is not easy so to make your vacation fun, just have dad paddle in the back while mom takes pictures! That worked for us!
Warning: There's poison ivy on the islands throughout the river. All in it cost $110 for the day.

Show up early to pay, get your gear, then they drive you to the drop off place. You paddle back to their landing. Nice day.
