“Fabulous golf in a stunning setting”
Reviewed July 15, 2012 via mobile

Developed by Maine philanthropist Harold Alfond, Belgrades Lakes is a beautifully designed (Clive Clark) and maintained golf course where every hole is interesting, challenging but fair with four tee boxes. The course starts and ends on a stunning height of land overlooking the Belgrades Lakes. Staff treat everyone like a member and if you walk the course, a club cart quietly arrives at the 9th and 18th greens to take players up the hill to the clubhouse that overlooks the double green. That makes the course very walkable despite considerable changes of elevation. Tee times are well spaced so you are unlikely to feel pushed and the snack bar offers great sandwiches as well as libations of all sorts. The emphasis here is great golf and respect for the game and its players I have played many highly ranked courses all over the US as well as several in Europe but if I had to choose only one course to play the rest of my life, it would be Belgrade. I never fail to enjoy the experience regardless of how my game is working.

“Beautiful course and great views but pricey”
Reviewed June 7, 2012

If you can afford spending $100 for a round of golf (including cart rental), then Belgrade Lakes Golf Club is probably worth it. The course itself is well laid out and a pleasure to play. The scenery is breath-taking (if harder to enjoy when the black flies are out). The dog-friendly policy is nice, and evidence of a low-key atmosphere. The club wasn't crowded for us and there wasn't the pressure that comes with crowds.

“Quickly becoming the hallowed ground for golf in Maine”
Reviewed April 27, 2010

Worth a 3 hour drive from Boston, Belgrade golf course is about 10 years old and is a 5 diamond course (like pinehurst #2 and pebble beach). It's hard to describe how serene this place is but virtually every hole is a sight to behold. The course is immaculately maintained free tee to green. It is worth repeating that every blade of grass is manicured and every divot repaired. The greens are tough but silky smooth and true.
Kyle, his family and their staff are great hosts. The property is modest with a nice club house, a snack bar and a full service bar. Not a lot of amenities that you might find at other places but frankly it's all about the golf. The views are amazing almost everywhere.
They use electric carts and almost all cart paths are paved.
The course is a traditional par 72 with plenty of challenging features (water, some pot type bunkers, blind shots, and places where precision is important. It is especially important on this course to keep it in the fairway. Many people are struck by the gigantic boulders lining many of the holes including a monster rock in the middle of the fairway on one of the par 5's.
It is a tough course to walk because of the dramatic elevation changes so I usually ride but if you want a good workout give it a go.
I would plan on close to 4.5 hours for a foursome to make it around.

Another thing I love is that it's rare to be found waiting because they don't just cram people in like some other courses (Foxridge anyone?).

It is expensive during the peak season but if you go early or late, there are steep discounts. I also heard that they offer informal twilight discounts for late day tee times. Just ask and you might catch them in the right mood.

This is golf holy ground in Maine. If you love golf then you MUST play this course. Doesn't matter how far you have to drive. Doesn't matter how much you have to spend. It is worth every minute and every penny just to say you did it. How many courses can anyone say that about?
I have played about 3 dozen different courses and seen many more, and Belgrade Lakes Golf Course is 5 stars, A+, and a perfect 10.
