We stopped during a recent trip to Maine. The whole vibe was just what we Ohioans were looking for. We're not great judges of what's good lobster but we liked ours fine (might have been a tad overcooked, but nothing serious). There are inside tables upstairs and outside tables that look over the harbor. It's a bit off the main road.

I read some of the negative reviews...I can imagine that problems might arise if the place were very crowded (which is wasn't during our visit), so take that into account. This is a great place for kids...but you would run up a tab.

If you're looking for a "Maine experience" and it's not so crowded that you can't find a space in the parking lot, you'll like Young's Lobster Pound.

We didn't have lobster, so maybe that was our mistake, but... I got the lobster stew. The lobster was so tough it was nearly impossible to chew, the broth was completely tasteless. My husband also tried it, and it was so bad we threw it away. I also got blueberry pie, which was some pre-made garbage from a package, so gross, and not even real whipped cream on it...some chemical foam that melted to a sheen. Needless to say, that also went into the trash. What a waste! My husband got steamers. He enjoyed the half of them that weren't bad, spit the bad ones out and hoped not to get sick. What a mistake to come here, The cool thing is, that you can watch the lobster boats come in to sell their lobsters.

You pick the size of lobster you want and if you order the lobster/clam combo, your order is up in roughly 20 minutes. Served with hot melted butter, there's no waitress service and you eat on picnic tables but you will find that it's the best and freshest lobster you'll ever have. Average combo plate price is $24-27.

You can't get much closer than on the water than this and with fresh lobster stored in the 'pound.'
We had their special feast, enough food for three people, well worth the cost. We added clam chowder which had whole clams and thin broth. Great change of pace. Mussels were large as were steamers. Lots of locals stop in so you know it's good. Cash and carry price, steal of $6/lb
(End of September).
We got great September sunset pic from corner of seating area. Lots of outdoor seating plus indoors as well. You want casual, this us it. A place we loved and glad we found.

Stopped on a Wednesday. Sunny day, place was solid busy but nothing more than standard 15-20 minute wait. It's BYOB. Staff was very friendly and on top of recognizing new arrivals. The bathroom is on the second floor with stair access only as far as I could see. The police was so good that two days later we made it a point to come back there again for lunch. They have all of the available varieties of seafood you would expect to find. Worth making this a destination.
