Been eating here for about a decade. It has changed a little, used to be a big biker stop years back, and that crowd still shows up. The local hard working guys (and gals) are seasoned regulars, with a sprinkle of professionals, along with the guy from around the corner who almost has his well aged imprint embedded on his favorite bar stool. Kids now and then, more likely on school vacation, and the tourist offspring. The place itself is historic (what some may call a dump but we call character) and pretty clean. The bathrooms have been immaculate every time we've been there. There were some improvements done over the years. There is a large back dcek overlooking the parking lot and harbor, and smokers can take refuge there.
The bar is comfortable and take note of the decor behind the bar. There are long tables, round ones and booths. We prefer the bar as the ancient booth seats are a little uncomfortable for us, but have their charm and provide a little privacy from your front or back door neighbor.
Typical bar food with a few nice surprises. Appies are standard. Salads are fresh and made to order. By far, the best burgers around . Pizza made as you like is pretty decent. Soups are made in house. We happened to catch the haddock chowder one day as the batch was just being completed in the kitchen, excellent!!! As always. A nice kiddie menu and a few deserts. Servings are ample. Never had a bad meal there. Tried dinner (supper) entrees a few times, but much prefer the simpler fare. Specials daily for lunch and dinner. Hot food is served hot. The best marguirita , nice specialty drink choices and a good assortment of beer on tap.
TV is always on and visual from most seats - you will not miss a second of whatever sport is being played, or rerun, especially Boston/New England. Trivia games are available, even if you're not officially playing, it is entertaining. Pool table and a video game or two. TV outdoor porch also.
Staff is friendly and eficient, and some have a long history. Ask for what you want even if it's not made that way on the menu. The kitchen will accomodate you if they can.
We are past the bar hopping days and much prefer lunch, but we understand it can get rockin', especially on a game night. Tried location #2, but much prefer the atmosphere of the original. Not for the hoity-toity crowd.
