My husband, young daughter, and I had the pleasure of spending time recently in Belfast, Maine. We came upon a fabulous property, the Belfast Bay Inn & Luxury Suites. It felt like being in our own home. The amenities were first rate and the hospitality were beyond comparison. Ed and Judy Hemmingsen, the owners and inn keepers, went out of their way to make our stay most enjoyable. The breakfast we experienced was very good and was brought to our room each morning.

We would highly recommend this property to anyone who will be traveling in the area and wants the first class accommodations that the Belfast Bay Inn provides.

My husband and I just returned from a two night respite weekend at the Belfast Bay Inn. We frequent Belfast regularly since we live only 45 minutes away, and after Ed and Judy graciously gave us a tour last year, we promised each other we would book a stay.

From the moment we stepped over the threshold, we knew that our plans to visit certain places while in Belfast would be changing, in that we wanted to spend as much time as possible in this elegant and comfortable suite. It was obvious to us that we had entered a world that was lovingly and meticulously created by Ed and Judy for the exclusive enjoyment of their guests. Since my husband and I take care of other people every day, we wanted to feel as though we were being pampered, and this suite and the hospitality of Ed, Judy, and their staff far exceeded our expectations.

From the hand picked original artwork, crown molding throughout, and tasteful high end furniture, to the granite countertops, floral arrangements, lush white robes, and 600 thread count sheets, we were treated to a weekend that we will always remember. The cleanliness of the suite was impressive, and the mood created by the lighting was conducive to relaxation at its finest.

We enjoyed so much the delectable breakfast that we were served both mornings - again the details were well noted -and it made all the difference to us to eat healthy, fresh food in our charming dining area, as opposed to eating at a diner in town. It was also the perfect ending to our wonderful stay.

As many of the other reviewers here have shared, the quality and detail of the amenities made such a difference to those of us who have had the opportunity to experience this fine establishment. This attention to detail is what propelled Ed and Judy to their Four Diamond and Select Registry Status (see the article in the November/December issue of maine. The Magazine). You can also peruse the website www.belfastbayinn.com which I did before our stay.

Of course, we will be returning to the Belfast Bay Inn and Luxury Suites in the future. Our thanks go out to Ed, Judy and their staff for providing us with a wonderful memory-filled weekend.

All these reviews describe the multiple virtues of this jewel of an Inn. In a life time of travel we can count on one hand the most impressive accomodations, and this one is on that hand. The "room" is an apartment really, with several rooms, and I belive most, but not all, are like that. The building is an impeccable old renovated brick four story building .Decorated in high quality French County motif, no detail is overlooked. The beds are so comfortable, reminisent of a German feather bed (but non allergenic, whatever its made of), One sinks into the cloud of blissful 1000 count sheets and some magic mattress that is just the right density. I wouldn't have ever left the bed if I hadn't had to see this coastal village with all it's artisans, galleries, boutiques (including Molly Amber, the Inn's shop, which carries unique gifts and even sells these remarkable sheets!) and bistros! This is a destination to be put on any travel plan if you want to get away and make a memory. I've been back twice since they opened last year, and will continue to return and recommend because I can be sure if Ed and Judy Hemmingson continue to own and operate the Inn, it will be as perfect as anybody could make it.

We wanted something special to celebrate our 35th Wedding Anniversary, and we got it! Our stay at the elegant, yet cozy Belfast Bay Inn exceeded both of our expectations. Tucked in among the tall buildings on Main Street, you could easily miss this opportunity to make a memory-maker of a lifetime. From the moment we entered into the exquisite lobby our senses were treated to the luxurious sights, sounds, and touch of the creme de la crème. The owners, Eddie and Judy, treated us like royalty. Yet their warm and gentle spirits provided you with a sense of unconditional acceptance. There is a reason only a few are able to belong to the Select Registry. We left vowing to return some day and hoping to find it just as we left it…intimate, beautiful, and magical.
I won’t wait for a milestone anniversary to revisit.... perhaps for my birthday and/or for his birthday and our 36th anniversary and perhaps for a well deserved weekend…

While researching hotels for a trip up the coast of Maine, we found the Belfast Bay Inn and thought we'd love to stay there but it was too expensive. A few weeks later I happened to see a special rate listed on Bed and Breakfast.com. When I called I was told the rate was not supposed to be offered any longer but Ed and Judy very graciously agreed to honor the rate for certain suites. Upon arrival we found the inn to be everything we hoped for and so much more. From the outside it is somewhat ordinary yet still charming. Once inside the beautiful lobby we knew we were in for a wonderful experience. Judy greeted us and both she and Ed made us feel so welcome. The building is beautifully restored with much of the original brickwork preserved and Ed and Judy both took time to talk with us about its history. Our suite (203) was just gorgeous. It was so roomy and is actually like renting a condo. Everything was very upscale and luxurious yet it still felt very comfortable and homey. We loved the fact that it had a washer and dryer. It was so nice to do laundry while relaxing and watching TV in the evening rather than having to take time from sightseeing to go to a laundromat. The full size kitchen was a nice touch and even though the stove is disconnected, who wants to cook while on vacation?! We walked to Darby's Pub and had a very good meal and then walked to the harbor and admired the beautiful view. Our suite had a balcony which overlooked the alley, not very scenic but there were also glimpses of the harbor and across the alley was a co-op which was fun to browse through. We had a great night's sleep as the mattress was fabulous. In the morning Ed and Judy brought breakfast right to our suite and it was incredible. Absolutely delicious and so beautifully presented. (see photo) Ed even said he ran over to the co-op that morning to get real maple syrup for us which was so thoughtful of him and made us feel very special. There are some nice shops in Belfast that we enjoyed perusing and we were very sorry to have to leave such a nice place. If we're ever in that area again we will definitely stay here. The Belfast Bay Inn is wonderful for anyone looking for an extra special place and although it's pricey, it's well worth it.

Ted and I were enjoying a relaxing drive up the Maine coast this Fall. We inadvertently stopped in Belfast and walked by this lovely Inn, the Belfast Bay Inn . After the very gracious hosts showed us their Inn, we were thrilled to be able to stay there. ( I would have moved in!) The room/suite was so, so comfortable and luxurious. The owners brought us a delicious breakfast the next morning; as they do every morning for their guests. We both can't wait to go back and stay longer. Without a doubt, stay there, it is heavenly! Judy and Ed, thank you for a wonderful stay.

Ed and I had some unexpected business combined with pleasure that took us to New England during one of the busiest weekends of the fall season, so we had little hope of finding a room in a cozy inn on a Friday evening. Driving down the main street of Belfast, we noticed the windows of the Belfast Bay Inn, chandelier lights sparkling a welcome from within. There was one suite left; ours. The suite was the size of a small flat, including a spacious bedroom/sitting room, open kitchen and living room, and lovely bath. The surprise was the washer/dryer hidden in a hall closet; perfect to dry that soggy down vest! Everything was immaculate, luxurious and beautifully appointed. A generous breakfast was delivered to our room the next morning by the most considerate innkeepers Judy and Ed. We left feeling well taken care of.
