“Good food and nice atmosphere”
Reviewed September 2, 2013 via mobile

We were driving to the airport and used the Trip Advisor app to find a good place to eat along the way. We passed several places along the way with recent poor reviews. This place was easy to get to in the heart of historic Bath. The staff was very friendly and the menu selections were amazing. There were so many options to choose. The Captain's Salad was amazing; the balsamic was homemade and okay. The Clam Chowder was amazing and bad a kick. The Lobster Melt was simply yummy. Service was good. We did have to ask twice for our drink, but not a big deal. Our waitress was attentive and friendly. Definitely worth the visit and we will stop again on our next visit back to the area.

“Don't miss Maxwell's”
Reviewed September 1, 2013

If you take a trip to Bath, don't miss a dinner at J R Maxwell & Co on Front Street. In particular, I recommend the clam chowder and dishes with Hadock.

“Excellent food, good service”
Reviewed September 1, 2013

Stopped in after shopping on Front Street. The decor is not particularly impressive: dark wood, brick walls. The service was fairly prompt and very friendly. The entrees were both very good. My wife had the filet mignon, which was done almost perfectly (sadly, not as common an occurance as one might wish). She was also pleased with the blueberry pie, while I somehow managed to get through the delicious and very generous sized Indian Pudding. The price was very reasonable, considering the filet mignon and the drink special my wife ordered. While we might try other places if we go back to Bath, we can definitely recommend it.

“Average food at decent prices”
Reviewed August 31, 2013 via mobile

We go to Maxwells 7-8 times per year. The food is pretty good. We went for summer dinner as we were in the mood for an easy seafood dinner. My husband got is favorite amaretto haddock which again was good. I ordered the shrimp and lobster casserole. It had way too much breading and was very dry but the flavor was ok. The entrees are well priced and come with 2 sides. This place needs to be more consistent, some food is very good, while some is less than average.

“Great seafood and service with a 1970s ambiance”
Reviewed August 19, 2013

My husband and I have eaten at this restaurant twice, and we had a very delicious (seafood) meal each time. The restaurant is conveniently located, with a lot of parking in the back. We ordered the stuffed mushrooms (clam stuffing) and they were very good, with fresh clam and mushrooms, and a very tasty filling. We also had crab cakes as an appetizer, and they were wonderful, delicate and with plenty of real crab meat. For a meal, we split the Fisherman's Platter - it was fried haddock, scallops, shrimp and clams (served with several sides). All was fresh and the fried food was not all greasy - it seemed lightly fried, food inside was still fresh with texture. The staff was really friendly and our waitress was sweet - she had recommendations that served us well. The restaurant itself had a dark wood interior, and it seemed like it had been designed in the 70s - but it was clean and fresh, so perhaps this just the look they are going for (it doesn't seem old, just stylistically so). The prices were reasonable - the main course was about 24,00 (and was so much food that my husband and I split it after getting a few appetizers). I would recommend this without hesitation!
