“Circling the drain - slower service, smaller portions, higher prices!”
Reviewed August 8, 2011

We stopped in at Kennebec Tavern this past weekend, got there at 11:30. Noticed right away that one thing changed - prices are about 30-40% higher! And we've noticed portions shrinking too, so we consider it about 70-100% more expensive than in last years.

By 12:15 we still hadn't gotten our order and we walked out. Another couple walked out about 10 minutes ahead of us. Hardly anyone inside, and out on the deck folks were angrily looking around to see what was going on.

We've been steady, local customers in past years, but they've lost us for good now.

“Beautiful location on the harbor for lunch!”
Reviewed August 6, 2011

The Kennebec Tavern is a wonderful place to stop by boat, or by foot. Food is consistantly good. We have had the mussels, crab cakes, chowder, and fried fish sandwich, all good. The service is slow, so don't be on a time-line. Kitchen does need to improve on this. However, if you want to relax awhile and enjoy the super views onto the water, this is a perfect stop.

“Extremely slow kitchen!”
Reviewed August 1, 2011

Excellent service, but it's sad when you feel sorry for hostess and wait staff. The kitchen was extremely slow. We waited almost 1 1/2 hours for our food. Alot of customers were complaing. Food was ok when it arrived, but my child said it best - "anything taste good when you are this hungry. "

“Used to be fair, now it's a real disappointment”
Reviewed May 30, 2011

We have been to the Kennebec Tavern many times since it opened, and typically visit three or four times a year. We started to steer away from it when they took the Guinness tap out, but at least they used to serve a locally brewed stout, from the Liberal Cup! We went there recently, and no stout was available at all! In addition, their menu has changed, and is more limited than ever before! Many items that we used to order are no longer available. We ordered the hot roast beef sandwich with grilled onions and mushrooms and blue cheese sauce. The sauce was a runny gravy that was very faintly blue cheese, and the roll was soaking in it so was quite soggy. The service was O.K. to start, order taken on-time, food delivered hot, but when it came time to get the check, things slowed down. I will not return here again! I wish I had gone to Maxwell's for lunch!

“Very Nice on the water”
Reviewed May 30, 2011

We stopped at this restuarant twice, going to and coming from Bar Harbor. We enjoyed it both times. Good Service, nice atmosphere and good food. Try the Fried parsnips! Very good. Don't ever remember eating parsnips but this opened our eyes to a whole new way to eat them and now we are trying them other ways.
