“Pulled pork, chopped brisket, tasty Bar-B-Q sauce, local draft beer. In Maine? Yes.”
Reviewed July 23, 2013

Beale Street Barbeque has been a Maine staple for quite a number of years, now, and continues to provide southern-style smoked meats served with a tasty sauce in portions that satisfy. Our waitress was attentive, although it must be noted that we arrived early on a Saturday afternoon and the restaurant wasn't yet busy (see other reviews), and insured our meal was enjoyable and satisfactory. One big plus is the availability of quite a number of local draft beers which complement the meals; this is especially true of the Allagash IPA. Overall, a very enjoyable meal at what now serves as a reasonable price point for luncheon fare. If you're a fan of Bar-B-Que in a Memphis-style tradition, Beale Street can satisfy your cravings.

“In Dire Need of a Manager...”
Reviewed July 19, 2013

The food is good -- pulled pork and cornbread was yummy. The ribs were okay. But the organization and service, oh dear - what a disaster. It was a crowded evening, many parties waiting for a table. A hostess who didn't know what she was doing, and had no idea how to organize her time; no one bussing tables. It's not a big place - so when 4 or 5 tables are empty (but not cleaned and set up), the place looks empty. Except for the 6 or 7 parties waiting (and waiting, and waiting) for a table. The hostess would clear a dirty glass or two off a table - and instead of finishing the clearing, would wander around to do nothing else for a bit. We aren't likely to go back.

“Great pulled pork and cornbread”
Reviewed July 16, 2013 via mobile

Brought together a group of 6 for dinner; arrived at rush time on a hot Saturday, but we had a short wait and a comfortable booth. Enjoyed the ribs and pulled pork (especially the cornbread, beans, slaw and macaroni sides too!). One of our friends had trouble with the spiciness of the crabcakes: no problem, whisked away and since she wanted to share the ribs, no substitute was needed. The crabcakes came off the bill without a fuss. Another good service point was letting one of our diners know that all of the ingredients for a Bahama Mamma (in Maine, no less) were not available, offering to create a similar drink, and being quietly delighted when the order was switched to an ale.
So, if you want what New Englanders think is BBQ with friendly service, this is THE place.

“Our favorite restaurant”
Reviewed July 11, 2013

Always a treat to eat at Beale St. My husband and I typically get the same thing everytime we go - pulled pork and cornbread and always get the fried calamari. Margarita gold on the rocks with no salt. Love their desserts but usually am so full I can't fit it. We have never been disappointed here and always look forward to going - the atmosphere and staff are wonderful.

“Better than the last time I went”
Reviewed June 21, 2013

OK I was back there for the first time this year and found that while the pulled pork is still not up to snuff by any southern state definition off 'barbecue' - that much else about their menu and service has improved. Salads, sides and trims are all better. Its still a dark setting but some folks like that closed in feel - me, not so much. Worth a stop if you are craving barbecue but shed your expectations if barbecue is your love.
