Trolley tours of BIW depart from Maine Maritime Museum and always sell out in advance. Knowledgeable guides are all former BIW workers and you get remarkably close to those mammoth naval destroyers under construction.

If you like to see how things are made this is a must do! Make reservations for the Bath Works tour if you know when you will be here, this was sold out even though we were first in the door and had to book it for the next day. It was worth coming back, as this was where they build Navy Destroyers and you get an up close look of them being built. The Museum is an indoor/outdoor exhibit of the original site they built sailing schooners at. Many famous war ships were built here an you can see the original buildings and tools that were used. Run by volunteers most of which have a connection to the area were very informative. You can also go on board an actual floating Schooner and tour above and below decks.

I would highly recommend taking the Kennebec River Cruise out of Boothbay Harbor and seeing the Bath Iron Works from the water. It is incredible.
