“We stay here every year.”
Reviewed August 10, 2011

I visit family in Bangor every summer. It has become a tradition to stay at the Bangor Ramada every year. The rooms are pretty good and the pool is very good, but the real reason we choose this hotel over any other in the city is because of the service we get from Jennifer at Barnaby's. My kids ask if we can go back to the hotel with the funny, friendly and helpful lady at the restaurant. Best of all, she remembers us from year to year. She compliments me on how great my kids' manners are. She makes us feel at home. She is the single biggest reason we choose this business before any other. We look forward to seeing her for many, many years to come! We also love the minigolf/ice cream/kart racing/arcade right next door. And the housekeeping staff is very friendly.

Room Tip: No elevator so ask for first floor.

Wifi didn't work, maid didn't clean room, left us no coffee for 2nd morning and when I called to ask for coffee the front desk told me all they had was decaf. When I pointed out they had a restaurant I was told there was nothing they could do. When I asked what was wrong with the wifi I was told that it must be my computer, the same computer that worked at the travelodge in my car!; The halls are smelly, no elevators and the room smelled. Don't go here! We stayed at the Travelodge nearby the week before and it was half the cost, had complimentary breakfast (Ramada doesn't!) and the rooms were clean.

Ended up at the Bangor Ramada through an Internet site, it was an ok experience, They have tidied up the place, I stayed here a couple of years ago and it wsant really al that, I found it to be acceptable, we stayed on the lower level , way in the back, so on saturday nights the nightclub in the hotel holds a dance party, and the young folk hung around the back of the hotel til 3 am, that was really my only peeve, I would stay here agian although several hotels all within the same general viciinity.

Dear Doggerm,

Thank you for your feedback. It is really nice to hear that you noticed our renovation. We are very pleased when our customers like the way it turned out. We have added more staff to the outside of the hotel during some of our busier nights particularly when there is a wedding or special event going on in the area. We look forward to you staying with us in the future.

We stayed two nights and it was a wonderful stay. The front desk staff were friendly and very helpful. Check in was a breeze. The room was incredibly clean and quiet. The air conditioning unit was a touch on the loud side, but otherwise the room was essentially perfect. Beds were comfortable, bathroom was well appointed, and there was room to move around. The courtyard with tables and deck chairs outside the pool area was an added bonus and a great place to spend a couple of hours with a book on a Saturday afternoon. The hotel is pretty much straight down the road from the Bangor International Airport, which provided us with a great reference point when we got lost on occasion.

The restaurant was great. We ate breakfast there the two mornings we stayed, and the service and food was amazing. The Eggs Benedict and home fries come highly recommended. The waitstaff were highly efficient and on the second day our server remembered our orders from the day before, and was able to answer all of our questions about the local area.

The only complaint was that there was some road construction going on outside the hotel which made getting in and out of the parking lot (which has only one exit/entrance) difficult at certain times of the day. This is no reflection on the hotel itself, but is something people may want to be aware of if they are staying there in the next little while.

All in all a great experience at the Ramada and I highly recommend it to anyone travelling to Bangor.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that faces the pool, there is an inner courtyard and you get less noise from the stre...

Dear Eletha,

Thank you so much for your kind words. The Bangor Ramada has undergone a large renovation recently including a brand new indoor pool that is by far the largest and newest in Bangor. Part of our renovation included buying 216 new beds that are top of the line in quality so when I hear guests compliment them it feels like money well spent.

Good news, the construction out front is over! The next time you are in Bangor we look forward to you staying with us again.

Sincerely,

I would only stay hear again if I was coming for the club downstairs (barnaby's). Stairs were filthy and needed vacuuming badly (on the backside of the hotel). Desk ppl didn't explain where room or elevators were. No explanation of shuttles to nearby concert. Refused to call a cab when we requested.

When we first entered the hotel, it was beautiful. Our room wasn't ready when we arrived on time, and ended up being 20 mins later than scheduled. The hotel staff was helpful in offering us to use the hotel pool while we waited, but we declined. The biggest issue was that there are NOT any elevators! This made it VERY difficult since we were traveling w/ a lot of heavy stuff. No one offered to help us bring our luggage, coolers and baby gear to the room, so it really put a damper on the first impression feat. The pool was nice and updated, no sauna/hot tub which we expected for the price of $140/night. No big deal though. We used the shuttle for transportation to the Ground Round for dinner, but when we called for the shuttle to pick us up afterwards, no one arrived after 45 mins of waiting in the rain! We walked back to the hotel and cancelled our shuttle that never arrived, and no one apologized or offered compensation for our frustration. We went to the night club in the hotel that evening (Barnabys) and had a good time. The rooms were very nice, the bathrooms were updated w/ a large shower/tub and curved shower rod for space. Our room had a fridge/microwave, but our linked room to our family's room did not...?
Sometimes the bigger hotels have lots of frills, but lose in the competition for better guest appreciation on the little details.

Room Tip: NO elevator! Ask for fridge/microwave in room.

Dear aliciajo1,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I really appreciate all the comments our guests write. Our top priority is to provide you with the absolute best customer service you can find. An elevator has been the topic of many budget discussions as I am sure it will continue to be. In the mean time we have 24 hour staff here at the property that will help our guests in the future with any luggage needs. The lounge downstairs is pretty popular. I am glad you had a good time.

Thanks again for your feedback,

Have stayed here several times, always for convenience and cost of using airport - ie, they provide a freee shuttle to ariport and free parking while away, if you pay the regular rate (discount rates are Very cheap, but are not now accepted for free parking). Nice pool (no hot tub), decent restaurant (closed Sun), rooms sizeable and beds comfortable, but noisy, esp if on weekend when military practices at airport. Nightclub active Sat nite. If not using airport, would recommend not using motel in this area due to airport traffic.

Room Tip: Go for 2nd floor in back
