We've been there a few times and at first it was very entertaining for our children and grandchildren. We recently took a couple of our newest grandbabies there and it was quite disappointing. Many of the educational hands on items were no longer working, yet still there. They talk about additional new items being brought it, but they would be better to invest in those that are broken first.

We took our kids here on a rainy day. They had a great time. Even our 1 year old was entertained! I highly recommend this if you are in the area.

We stopped here on our way out of town and our 1.5 yr old had a blast. I really liked the Maine habitat area and the human body exhibit. He loved the semi-truck and kept wanting to get in and drive it!

We were here about 2 hrs which was perfect, but older kids could probably spend longer, especially if they did some of the crafts and activities.

Also, this museum is part of the Discovery museum network, so our VA Discovery museum pass actually got us in here for free...but I would pay if it hasn't because it was so good!

This museum is an excellent choice for the 10 & under crowd! My 4 year old grandson had a blast! Three floors of hands-on fun, with something to appeal to just about everyone. Some live small critters (bearded dragon; lizards, fish). Numerous themed exhibits: kitchen for young foodies; reading rooms dedicated to special books (Charlotte's Web and Good Night Moon); music rooms; ship replica; dinosaur dig sandbox; models; scooters and motorcycles that can be mounted by the kids; climbing spot for the more adventuresome; Japanese room; paper doll display, water play room, and so much more. The craft of the day was drawing with sugar chalk (i.e. chalk soaked in sugar water). The museum sponsors day camps for various ages for locals or extended stay folks. This was nice, because we were able to actually use the museum while the day campers were doing crafts in separate rooms. Parking is available in the parking garage behind the museum: first 2 hours are free. We were there for about 3 hours and paid only $1.50 for parking.

Take your kids... What a great gem to visit with kids as young as 2 years old. Dinosaur dig, lizards, and a pretty realistic size boat that kids can blow the horn. Three floors of fun!
