My boyfriend and I stayed at this motel to attend a holiday party across the street. The price was good. Check in & out times were very reasonable but what turned us off was the cleaniness of the rooms. The tub had hairs (5 to be exact) on it from the private area of ones body if you know what I mean. I always pull back the covers before I get into the bed and when I did this i found the pillow and bed had hair all in it too...like the sheets hadn't been changed in a while or something. I would say the last person who statyed in the room had a shedding problem. The cabinet the frig was in had about two inches of dust and crumbs in it. And the bed sucked... we both went home with major backache. We won't stay there again.

Dear AMS04350,

I am extremely apologetic to hear about the cleanliness issue of the room and the un-satisfaction of your stay. After looking into the problem we found that it was an issue with one employee. That person no longer works here and the current housekeeping staff ALL shares the same standard of high quality cleanliness. I hope that you will give us another chance to let us show you that the incident you faced in your last stay was absolutely not our standard. Again, our apologies, I am very sorry for your experience and hope that you allow us to make it right with your next stay.

Thank-you,
Your friends at the Fireside Inn Bangor

I have stayed here many times and this time was just as nice as ever! I brought my 7 year old grandson with me on this weekend trip to participate in a cancer walk near by, everyone made him feel comfortable and welcome. It was nice to have security in the parking lot that weekend as there was a concert at the waterfront park, it made us feel nice and safe even with all the extra people around!

Hotel was quite good over all.Staff was very friendly, decor was a bit dated but our room was clean and was a good size for the two of us. (Girls shopping trip to the US from Canada) Really liked that our room had a microwave as well as a fridge. The only major thing was that the poor fan in the bathroom Needs to be replaced! It is on it's last legs for sure and very noisy, sounds like it was going to fall right out of the ceiling. However we would stay here again in a minute! Thanks!

We (as we usually do) checked out Hilton Garden Inn Bangor who was asking an ungodly $209! So we continued checking on hotels.com and our beloved tripadvisor.com to see what was up. We liked the idea of the Hollywood Slot & Casino Hotel but also the Fireside. Then after reading the reviews, I realized it was right next door to the Hollywood place. HOllywood wanted $129 and Fireside $110.

We basically made our decision after reading "nmcall"'s review, a few reviews beneath mine. So I called Fireside and they offered a AAA-rate of $98 and there is free WiFi (fast and strong signal), free parking and free basic breakfast (donuts, bagels to toast, juice, tea, coffee). We got the Whoopies too!! Hadn't seen one in years, LOL.

Called and got Joanne (Jane?), and explained what I'd read about cigarette smoke (I don't want to be anywhere near that stench). She then said she could put us on the first floor that had almost never seen smoking and put our names down (didn't even take a credit card; I sad I'd pay cash on arrival). We arrived and she had us all ready, keys, Whoopies, etc. Very very pleasant and fast check-in experience. And then dinner at Geaghan's (inside Inn) where we had a pleasant dinner (cajun shrimp skewers were GREAT) and FYI, it's a microbrewery too. And our waitperson was fanTASStic! But that's a separate review!

The room was fine. It was clean. Beds were comfortable. There is indeed a fridge and microwave. Huge TV. No closet; just a clothing rack (lol). Sink outside bathroom and although small, a clean bathroom with shower and tub. Same toiletries as HGI btw.

Stayed one night at Fireside Inn in Bangor. This was our first stay at this property. At check-in the lady at the front desk, Jane, was very pleasant. Everyone gets a whoopie pie at check-in which we saved for later (really good). Ate dinner in the pub which was very busy. Food was good. The hotel is next door to the casino which was the purpose of our stay. Bed was comfortable and the Keurig coffee was an added amenity. Will definitely stay again!

So, this hotel is next to the Hollywood Casino and hotel. We have stayed at both hotels and if you are trying to decide which hotel to pick, hopefully this review will help.We stayed at the Fireside Inn last night.. The Fireside Inn is old, rooms are average, some still smell like smoke, the bathroom is tiny, but the advantage here is that every room has a microwave and refrigerator, Hollywood hotel does not.. They offer a free continental breakfast, Hollywood hotel does not. We also has a kerig coffee maker. It also has a restaurant/bar which has its own microbrews. The food is really not that good. You do get a snack bar and buffet at Hollywood Casino.. Our room was on the second floor overlooking the parking lot which was ok. We did not hear our next door neighbors, but we did hear hallway noise which is common anywhere. The walls at Hollywood Casino hotel are extremely thin which is disappointing for such a new building. So, if you just need a place to stay for the night, even though it is older, Fireside Inn mught be the more economical choice most of the time. We have however experienced twice now, when we check in, they tend to not honor the room type you reserve. Both times we have reserved a non smoking king and have been given a room with 2 queen beds instead. So make sure you specicy under special request a king room because the confirmation does not specify the room type you rewserved and you have no way to prove it when you get there..

Thank you very much for your very positive review. We have only recently become completely smoke free--we hope to be rid of the residual smoke smell eventually. On the room type issue, your advise is valid, but calling the hotel directly is always a good idea. Again, thank you very much for taking the time to review us.

My husband and I took an overnight get away and stayed here.
The location next to the casino was.
We have stayed right at the casino before and although those rooms are newer and nicer...I thought that this hotel was just fine.
The rooms were nicely decorated.
The lobby was small, the breakfast room was small and the variety of food offered in the continental breakfast was minimal but adequate. The whoopie pie at the desk that was offered was fun and an innovative idea.
The hallways were a bit dingy and smelled a bit of smoke, but the room was clean.
The bed was comfortable and there was a gas fireplace in our room.
That was a very nice touch...romantic!
There were k-cups for coffee.
Plenty of towels and hot water for showers.
Fridge and microwave in the room.
The chair and table in the room were not desk-like not conducive for doing work ... but, this overnight was not for work--so, that was fine with me.
Jane at the front desk went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable.
:-)
