The Fiddlehead is a very special restaurant and reason alone to make the trip to Bangor. The food is utterly delicious and sourced from their own or other local farms. The tomato tart and terrine appetizers were subtle yet flavorful. We shared the grilled romaine salad and it was amazing. Our entrees were the chicken breast and lamb shops - both perfectly cooked and delicious, as were the accompaniments. We took doggie bags home in order to save room for desserts - cherry tart for one, homemade strawberry ice cream for the other; both yummy.
The servers were attentive but we never felt rushed. Make a reservation and ask for a table by the window. It's an interesting and small space with an even smaller kitchen, which is amazing considering the wonders they create there.

When I saw their menu I knew they had heart. When I ate their food, I knew they had SOUL.
Exquisite and the service was outstanding. We will be back. Soon.

“Unpretentious elegance”

These people know the hospitality business! Smart decor. Friendly, professional service. Fabulous food locally sourced and beautifully prepared. My childhood summers in Maine meant lobsters in the yard on a picnic table - the only way to eat lobster, until now! Fiddlehead's lobster roll has taken a great idea and made it a masterpiece. The slaw and roasted potatoes tie for best supporting taste sensations. Beware all you lobster rolls out there...the bar has been set extremely high! Oh yeah, the first course and salad course will also knock your sox off!

“Quaint and Charming”

Stopped in after a relaxing day in Bangor. No reservation but they squeezed us in happily. Very friendly staff, excellent drinks, lovely decor. The cornbread and molasses was a nice change, salad was delicious. The only negative was that the locally raised beef was not lean but tough and seemed to be cut wrong maybe. When asked about it the owner/manager came by and wanted us to know that it was very lean but we didn't argue. She was a sweetheart but it was tough. Would most definetly go again as everything else was outstanding!

“Awesome restaurant.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 1, 2014

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed dinner at the Fiddlehead Restaurant. Reservations are recommended as the restaurant is very popular and not too large.

We were warmly greeted and immediately shown to our table. The atmosphere is casual with wood floors and brick walls. The restaurant is within a restored building which it shares with Massimo.

The menu is varied and makes use of fresh ingredients including some produce grown at the restaurant's garden. Fresh corn bread with a small dish of molasses was placed on our table.

For starters my wife had grilled romaine lettuce with stilton, roasted tomatoes, and balsamic vinegar. I had a tomato tart with half cherry tomatoes and parmesan cheese on flaky pastry dough with a drizzle of balsamic vinegar. Both dishes were home runs.

For an entrée my wife the Fiddlehead burger with ground bacon, swiss chard, corn aioli, and chipotle sour cream. It came with a side of corn on the cob with scallion butter, and pasta salad.
I had a large, delicious piece of salmon with tzatziki and a hash of cauliflower, meurez sausage, and english peas. Both portions were large and too delicious not to finish.

My wife and I shared a peach upside down cake for dessert. The cake had pieces of candied ginger and was served with vanilla ice cream.

Dinner was very relaxed and served at a leisurely pace.

We wished that we lived closer to Bangor so that we could visit The Fiddlehead more frequently.
This is definitely a winner that you should not miss.
