“Absolutely the best stay on Bailey Island, ME”
Reviewed September 7, 2012

Our family group of 13 (ages not quite 1yo to 50) stayed at Sea Escape Cottages several years ago (prior to limited time of mo/yr selection) and found them to be a welcome, warm, immaculate home-like place to stay, and the owners were very friendly and accommodating. If and when we ever return to ME, we will absolutely stay there again. Part of our family stayed in one of the cottages and the rest of us stayed in one of the two bedroom suites upstairs, over the game room and a fantastic view of the bay. Would highly recommend a stay here!

Room Tip: If you can do a flight of stairs, I would highly recommend one of the suites, but the cottages are q...

Stayed in Cottage 4 - an imaculate 2 bedroom cottage, perfectly equipped with everything we may have needed during our stay. Enjoyed relaxing on the porch with the morning coffee and watching the lobstermen checking their traps. In the evening, the Adirondack chairs beckoned for viewing the sunset . . . will definitely return!

This was our first time at Sea Escapes and it won't be our last. I wish I could convey how much we enjoyed our stay. The lawn is beautifully maintained with a gazebo, firepits for every cottage (with a beautiful view) and access to the water. Our stay was very quiet, though I believe most of the cottages were booked. The kitchen is almost fully stocked (bring your own paper products and foil/plastic wrap) and clean, water pressure in the shower - excellent, VHS/DVD player in the living room (teenagers loved it), cozy pull-out couch, the rooms were very clean and cozy. We stayed in Cottage #3 and it would sleep five comfortably with room for a baby. Duke is a very friendly dog and loves to try to get your food so be on guard when making s'mores. We had an absolutely great time and will be back again. Donna is a wonderful person, very accomodating and friendly. Thank you for a great stay!

Room Tip: I believe there are descriptions online. Call with any questions.

I had never traveled to Maine before, and my friend stumbled upon these cottages. What a wonderful, mom and pop run business. There are so many places to sit and relax. We had an upstairs unit with two bedrooms, slept 4 and WOW what a view from up there. When the fog cleared, it was so incredibly "New England" with the Fall colors, and the homes across the water. It was perfect! If you want a truly Maine experience, with lobsters at a nearby harbor to pick-up, this is the place for you. The cottages even provide lobster buckets and information on how to cook them for the newbies. I don't enjoy lobster, but the experience was one to write home about. Don't forget to say "Hello" to Duke, the cottage dog that likes to play fetch and roam the property. He is adorable! Travel out a bit to the end of Bailey island to the store "Lands End" for some fun things to buy and bring home to friends, great prices too!

This was our 2nd stay at Sea Escape Cottages. We spent a week this time, and well worth it, AGAIN! We love Bethany and her family. They make you feel as though you are right at home. Wood burning on the outdoor fire pit every night, heavenly sunrises (viewed right from bed!) and amazing sunsets! A place to sip your coffee and never want to leave!
Worth every penny spent on this vacation, to come in each night to the most wonderful cozy bed with "fall into a cloud" comforter & pillows!

This was my first long vacation in Maine. My husband choose the place and made the reservation, he had stayed here before. He warned me that I may not like it, no AC, not much to do, simple, not fancy, etc., etc. That's okay, it time alone with my husband, nothing else really matters, he's happy, right?

This vacation was wonderful. Les and Donna are very warm. The view is breath taking. The local food (most of it prepared by my husband) was fantastic. It was totally restful, with plenty of places to explore, just in case you get tired of doing nothing.

He was right the cottages were simple but very comfortable with everything that you need at your finger tips. Just bring the stuff you need to make s'mores by the fire in the evening.

If you need a fancy B&B to be happy, this may not be the place for you. If you enjoy a spectacular sunset and the beauty of nature all around, you will love Sea Escape Cottages.

I can't wait for our next visit.

We owned a cottage resort in Canada for five years and sold it this year so we had summer vacation time! We just stumbled onto Sea Escape, expecting we could only find a motel on short notice but mid-week, there was one cottage open. We were VERY picky on how we ran our resort and Sea Escape is the same. If you want the Ritz, this is not your place, but to get away, have a clean well equiped cottage with great Inn Keepers, the entertainment of watching the lobsterman haul their pots every morning while you eat breckfast on the deck on the waters edge and tons of things to see on day trips, this is it! A view from every cottage porch is the bay.

Make sure you go to the local lobster wholesaler and get your lobster that has come just off the boat, it was $4.00 a pound for us.
