Visited here recently for a family meal. We were politely shown to our table which was away from the other tables as there was a few of us in the group. The staff were very attentive and very helpful with wine suggestions and food recommendations.

Whilst waiting on the starters we were treated to complimentary warm breads (almost like mini baguettes) and a nice tomato dip to enjoy them with. When the starters arrived they were lovely and there were no complaints apart from perhaps the portion sizes being a little on the small side, however this is not and all you can eat type of place (I also think that we wanted more just because they were so good!). The main courses that followed were equally as well received with yet again no complaints. A few of us went on to have desserts which were very good as well.

The only issue we had throughout the whole night was that after we had placed our orders the service seemed to become a little slow and less attentive. Numerous times we had to gain the staffs attention to refill drinks and such like which I think should be of paramount importance (especially at the prices paid here). We actually had to go and ask for the bill as it had been so long since anyone had been to our table at the end of the night and after it arrived because no one came back to collect it we had to get up and go to pay. I would have been able to understand it more had the restaurant been busy but there were only 2 or 3 other tables in at the same time. It's a shame that the level of service we received tapered off towards the end of the night as it took the shine away from the overall experience which was on par for 5 stars owing to the lovely food.

booked the restaurant for my birthday The quality of the food served could not be faulted however the length of delay between courses was unacceptably long.
From the time we sat down the main course arrived 90 minutes later !!.
At no time were we briefed as to why the delay, we eventually had to ask and were advised there was also a wedding taking place.
Surely staffing should have been geared up to this.
cant fault the food but ............... service yes

The location is not what you would expect of such a superb restaurant but be prepared to be surprised. My wife and I dined there both on Christmas Day and New Years Eve and Wow!
We have dined in many of Edinburgh's best restaurants and always wondered what they would be like during the festive period. However we decided to stay local and dine at the Dakota Bar & Grill. This was a brilliant decision as the food ,service, wine and atmosphere was just perfect.
Andy and his team exceeded our expectations. The Halibut on Christmas Day and Lobster on New Years Eve was to die for. We loved the choice and quality of the food, all served by a wonderful friendly team. We will certainly go back next year. A great choice for anyone visiting Edinburgh during the festive period with good access to the city - come to think of it- a great place to stay and dine all year.
Many thanks to the team at the Dakota for making our Christmas and New Year special.
