We had a great visit, though - like other reviewers - we couldn't get anyone to answer the phone. We got stuck in a 2-hr accident jam that almost put us arriving after dusk, and after the gates were supposed to close. I called the office repeatedly, called the reservation line and called the management system for Louisiana Parks, which couldn't get through. Luckily, we arrived in time. The sites are open and spacious. There's a nice treeline running behind the sites. August is hot and muggy, no surprise, but not a biggy with an RV. The bugs though are vicious, far worse than where we live in South Florida. But the dragonflies are huge and gorgeous. Wild hogs dug pits in the ground every night but we didn't get to see any. Bathrooms were icy cold and humid, so showering was a hassle. The wave pool offers an exhausting day of absolute fun. To get to the French Quarter cabbies will pick up at the campsite. Sadly, the ferry was closed so the cost was about three times as much. Oh, and the National Senior Pass that reduces rates in half in Louisiana, as per their Website, only applies to state residents. The campgrounds is definitely a peaceful way to experience N'Awlins.

I wanted to reserve a campsite here but was unable to get anyone on the phone after 30 minutes of phone calling on three different phone numbers. One of the numbers had an answering machine that picked up after two rings. I left a message and have not heard back from park staff. I do not know if I will be able to get a site because picking up a phone at the park presents an inconvenience to the staff.

I tent camped for three nights in May, and enjoyed my stay. The sites were spacious, and you weren't on top of your neighbors. The bathrooms were clean. The park itself doesn't offer any services, but there were plenty of places nearby. There was an after hours access point, so you could stay in the city beyond dusk if you wanted.

The parks front desk will not answer its phone, and their phone has no answering machine to explain the front desks hours.

From 8:00 am to 3:00 pm I tried calling them 20+ times, I either got a busy signal or no one answered the phone.

The parks management is presently spending (millions) of dollars remodeling the park. But unfortunately the parks (incompetent) management will not spend $50 dollars to purchase a answering machine for their front desk.

In short their failure to answer the phone destroyed my entire weekends plans, plus it started a (huge) family fight about how government controlled services can't do anything right.

The park itself is fantastic. Its a great place to take your family or friends camping.

Just do (not) count on them to answer the phone.

We stayed at Bayou Segnette for six nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We arrived after dark and happened to run into a park ranger who kindly helped us find our site then stayed with truck lights on to help us get the trailer in position. The gate keepers are very well informed and can offer a lot of assistance and tips in visiting New Orleans. They recommended taking the Algiers Ferry across the river to Canal Street and walking from there which was very good advice! No parking issues, no one-way streets to navigate, and many streets were under construction which would have made driving a nightmare. The park was relatively quiet and we had a very relaxing week just a stones throw from New Orleans.
