“Enjoying nature in excellent accomodations!”
Reviewed October 30, 2013

We were attending a Field Trial Event in Bunkie, Louisiana with our Labrador Retrievers. As is usual with these events, they are held in the middle of nowhere with limited accommodations. I found Chicot State Park, Ville Platte, LA on the Louisiana Parks website and decided to make a reservation. The website is wonderful, with color pictures of each site, length of pad, 30 or 50 amps, picnic tables, fire ring, etc. Unlike many websites, the actual location exceeded our expectations! The paved pad was very level and we did not have to adjust our Airstream to make it stable.
We chose the South Campground B, as it had 50 amps and the longest pads, but we explored the area and all sections were similar in layout. The park is very well maintained and easy to traverse. Although the Section we were in was almost 100% occupied, it did not seem crowded. The pads were staggered and we had plenty of room and privacy.
I highly recommend this facility and look forward to visiting again.

“Canoeing on the lake”
Reviewed October 20, 2013

We rented a canoe ($20 which includes entrance fee), and spent 4 hours noodling along the shore.
We spent about 4 hours and saw only a small sliver of this large lake. This was a mid week visit, so we saw only a few distant fisherman. As canoeing is quiet, you are able to get close to lots of birds and other wildlife. (including several small alligators and a wild boar) We found the trip to be excellent, even when compared to the commercial 'swamp tour boat' we took the next day.
I would return for another paddle in a heartbeat.
The nature center is also a worthwhile visit. It is a great looking building and exhibits. Walking paths are also worthwhile.

“Great place for a nature walk!”
Reviewed September 19, 2013

We stopped here for one night on our way from Oklahoma to Grand Isle, Louisiana and quickly wished we'd have given ourselves more time! The park is so well maintained & just beautiful! We had a reservation to park our RV in the North campground. When we got there our reserved lot was in a fairly crowded loop so we called the office & they let us pick a different site... no problem.

With only one night, all we had time to do was a little walking to take in all the nature. We loved the fishing pier & boardwalk... even spotted a gator! We will definently plan a trip back here to spend more time.

“worst camping trip ever”
Reviewed July 6, 2013

This was our worst camping trip ever. First reservations are thru reserve america & no pictures of campsites are available. We drove 3 1/2 hours to find that our site had full sun, shorter in length than described on line. Contacted front office to change sites. Sure no problem right? WRONG! We were given another site that was reserved. We found this out of course late & just before dark. We had just lit the coals for the bbq pit, when the park ranger let us know we had to move. We couldnt move in the am, we had to move asap. The man in the front office made the mishap, but we were penalized. You cant sit by the fire at night because the bugs will eat you alive. Nothing to do for the kids, except for a boring splash pond! People are rude here. We will never return. We will not recommend this state park to anyone.
