Owner description: Go beyond the myths of the American South and explore the complex and intimate relationships of 4 generations of one Louisiana Creole family, both free and enslaved. Laura’s new, permanent exhibit examines in biographical detail the lives of Africans on the plantation, from enslavement into the 20th century. In the heart of Plantation Country on the Mississippi River, the fully guided experience includes the Big House, gardens & original 1840s slave cabins. Laura is open daily from 9:30AM - 5PM except for major holidays. The first tour of the day begins at 10AM with tours beginning approximately every 40 minutes thereafter until the last tour of the day at 4PM. Before or after your Laura tour, enjoy authentic, homestyle Cajun and Creole food at B&C Seafood Market and Cajun Restaurant right next door.

The history ol this plantation is really captivating, and the way Camille tells you about it, with her touch of humor, her deep knowledge of every details, your tour is over before you know it! There are so many interesting anecdotes in her speech that you could stay listening to her for hours.
We bought the Memories of the Old Plantation Home at the end of the tour, and I will start it tonight!
The tour costs 20US$/pers, and you will not regret it, on the contrary! my only regret is that the tour was too quick (over 1hour); you can't do it by your own, you have to follow the group, and your guide!

We really enjoyed our tour. Wish I good remember our guide's name, but he really made it come alive for us. Would highly recommend this tour. We visited this Plantation and the one at San Francisco. While that one was better furnished inside, this one was far more memorable due to the guide and stories he could tell us about the life of the inhabitants and his knowledge about them and their life during that time period.

The highlight of the visit to the Laura Plantation was our excellent tour guide, Camille. She related the plantation's history as well as that of the whole area and made the tour very interesting. The house, however, itself did not impress me compared to other plantation houses that I have toured. I was disappointed that they did not have a discount rate for seniors if you were not a member of AARP and also felt a greater sense of commercialism compared to other plantations.

We visited Laura Plantation and were pleasantly surprised by Camille, our guide's, level of expertise concerning everything from the plantation, slavery, and history of the time to knowledge of New Orleans and the surrounding Mississippi River area. What was also stood out was her sense of humor. It connected those in the tour and put us at ease during the difficult parts of discussed history.
