“Going the right way”

After many years this pub is on the up. The ( years overdue) updating is very welcome. The bar area now feels welcoming and warm. The staff are first rate . The beer is very very good and my wife liked very much the house red. The food menu is small but the better for that. Two different pies were on offer the night we called . Unfortunately , both had , very slightly, undercooked meat. An extra ten minutes or so in the oven would have turned slightly chewy stewing steak/pork into something more succulent. The pie topping was lovely though and the chips were superbly done and the veg was fine . Oh, the portions were more than ample. Our starter was good as well. So well done the Owners and we will be back !!

“Late lunch for two”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 21, 2014

Arrived for a late lunch and welcomed in by the friendly owner
who informed us of the refurbishment that had been done.
The food was made with good quality local produce to a very high standard. The service was very good and you were made to feel at home. Prices very good for quality food.

“Same name completely new pub!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 16, 2014

We went for an evening meal with friends and family and to be honest it was with trepidation given our poor experience some 8yrs previous when we vowed never to return. However, it was a pleasure from the minute we walked in the door. The staff couldn't do enough for us, for example we wanted to buy a bottle of wine to have with our meal and were immediately offered the chance to try the various wines we were considering.
The interior was unrecognisable from our previous visit and significantly improved, it was warm, welcoming and clearly the direction of travel the new owners are going is very evident. If we were to given any constructive criticism in this area, maybe just dipping the lighting slightly.
The food was all very good clearly homemade and extremely tasty, although the standard menu was limited the specials board plugged the gap and we're sure as time goes on they will find their pitch in the market and the menu will develop accordingly.
A great addition for all the local surrounding villages.... Thank you for a good night and very best wishes for a successful future with your new venture.

Can't comment on the food as I went for a beer with a friend. Nice atmosphere. Got a warm welcome when we entered. Friendly and talkative staff. Looking at the other reviews the food looks top notch, so I'll be back in the near future to find out for myself.

“Revamped and Raring to Go”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 8, 2014

We had a good time here and all in our party said they would definitely return. The White Swan has had a modern make-over following the first change of management in 30 years. It has undergone the white walls treatment signifying the shift from workaday pub to focused eating house and looks bright, fresh and with-it, if a little sterile. The young but experienced owners took over just a couple of months ago so perhaps the place will gain more quirk and character as they settle in. There are plans to expand and shift things around a bit and they are full of infectious enthusiasm. There are various speciality evenings such as quiz and pie nights and I certainly feel inclined to make it a regular haunt following this enjoyable first visit. Within our group we found food to range from quite good to excellent with the steaks rated particularly highly. Meals were well presented and served promptly by a capable, friendly and accommodating team. Children are welcomed and there is a good kids menu though the atmosphere was decorous and as equally suited to romancing couples as families during our visit. Before 7pm under-10s eat for free which is a generous lure and prices in general are very fair in my opinion. Good luck to the new owners and we'll see you again soon.
