Baja Beach Oasis
Reviewed March 3, 2013

My husband and I, along with another couple, traveled to the Baja Beach Oasis in June. To say we had a fantastic time was an understatement. The place is a stone's throw from a very private beach (hardly saw a soul while walking along it) and a short drive from an idyllic little Mexican town. The Baja Beach Oasis is a dream - the grounds are so peaceful (the copper hot tub and beautiful pool make you feel like you could easily lounge around without having to go out) and Bobbi is the best host - providing you with lots of options while also giving you space if desired. We will surely be going back to the Baja Beach Oasis and heartily recommend it to anyone seeking a relaxing time while still enjoying the authenticity of Baja California, Mexico.

There wasn't a moment during our three night stay with Bobbi at the Baja Beach Oasis that we didn't feel like we were in heaven! My husband and I had just spent 8 nights up and down Baja camping and we ended our vacation in the most relaxing way possible - at the Baja Beach Oasis.

The casita was perfect and we cooked in the room for almost every meal. We spent almost every evening watching the sunset on the beach and then relaxing in the hot tub. Bobbi was the most gracious host, and we wouldn't hesitate to stay here every time we go back. It's the most special place, and if you are looking for something so much better than the tourist scene, this is the place. And Bobbi really knows everything about the area - she can help you with tours, great restaurants, and anything else you'd like to complete your stay down here. We watched grey whales just off the beach (one night, they were only about 50 m away!).

We had a wonderful time!

For those of you would want to experience real paradise, this is the place for you. I'll never go to a soul less, all-inclusive again. This wasn't just a vacation, it was a life changing experience. Bobbi and Sam will guide you to the best beaches, food, and outings you've ever experienced. Will I go back? Year after year. In fact, my heart is there right now. LOVED it!

Just got back from our honeymoon: a week at Baja Beach Oasis! We couldn't have found a more perfect place. Bobbi and Sam were so energetic and the best hosts with so much adventure planned for us. Our Casita was beautiful and so comfortable. We were impressed by how safe and clean the entire community was. The landscapes all around were just gorgeous and the sunsets were amazing!! We even got to see a leatherback turtle hatch right out on the beach in front of the Oasis!! We had great surf lessons, a wonderful yoga class, a tour of a waterfall up in the mountains to meet a master potter where we got the most beautiful pottery, panga fishing and whale watching. We caught Mahi-Mahi, which Bobbi prepared for us and served us right at our own casita. The best fish we've EVER had!! She is such a fantastic cook!! Everything we wanted to do was nearby, easy to find and reasonably priced.

Room Tip: There are 3 casitas, all a little different.

A few of our memories:

-Tour Guide Bobbi sounding the bell and shouting “Turtle Hatch!,” then piling us all into her Jeep for a ride down the beach to watch infant turtles emerge from the sand and take their first careful steps into the ocean.
-Pre-Yoga coffee delivered to our al-fresco dining table (not to mention the Yoga; steps from our casita).
-Home-made dinner – once special ordered and once from the dishes Chef Bobbi had created for her own family – and a bottle of wine for two outside our casita; the white edges of dark waves crashing in the night under a halo of bright stars.
-Spontaneous (and short!) walks down the path to watch the sunset and wander the quiet beach.
-Refreshing dips in the pool.
-Wine, snacks and the Green Flash at sunset at the Secret Beach.
-Hot tub for two under shooting stars.
-Falling asleep and waking up to the metronome of crashing waves; from a good, firm bed!
-Reasons to return (like trips to the mountains and surf lessons with Sam)

It all felt good. We knew we were part of a family. We knew that we were with a host who takes great care to respect Mexico and Mexicans; their resources, their cultures, their skills.

We know we got _extremely_ lucky. We somehow managed to navigate past the tourist traps and far-from-the-beach options. We were able to handle a few over-priced nights in fancy places that weren’t worth it. But, if we could have defined Baja _value_ and booked it before we left Seattle, we would have booked our entire stay at Baja Beach Oasis. We would have booked it first, and made the rest of the details work around it.

Room Tip: We had the middle casita and loved it.

I first looked at the reviews for this Beach Oasis when I was deciding whether or not to purchase the Living Social coupon deal. It had four reviews, and all four of them were stellar. I thought it might be too good to be true; a real deal at a perfect getaway location. After (purchasing the deal and) spending four incredible nights there last week, I now think those first four reviewers did not do this paradise justice! I cannot say enough great things about it, but I will try to add some ideas in addition to what we're all saying about this gem.

My husband and I decided we wanted to take a trip where the luxury was provided by nature. That is the case with this Oasis, but even with the eco-conscious lifestyle of this hideaway, it does not lack in the luxury department at all. Since it uses solar power and there are no televisions or phones (although some wi-fi), and has shared shower facilities, it sort of felt like camping... but you can't fit a five-star, king-sized amazingly comfortable bed (like the one in our bungalow) in your backpack! The shower water was always hot (even the outdoor shower on a cool evening), and the fresh lavender oil for the tub was heavenly. The hammocks, the pool, and the fire pit were divinely relaxing. The owner's attention to detail is so evident.

The secret of this place's success is the owner, Bobbi McElravey. She will greet you personally when you contact the Baja Beach Oasis via email for a reservation, and her graciousness just grows exponentially from that moment on. She welcomed us like treasured friends when we arrived, and we left there feeling like family. The beauty of this place is that we could choose to be social or secluded, active or relaxed, and we drifted in and out of these quite easily. Bobbi only has 3 bungalows, so it was also easy to feel like we were the only two people there (or on earth, for that matter).

The Pacific Ocean was steps away from the Oasis (down an unpaved, sandy road), and the soft, sandy beach was perfectly empty of humans most of the time we were out there. (There were, however, a few whales that passed by every now and again, and a California sea otter!)

If you have ever wanted to try yoga, or you're a seasoned Yogi, ask for a session with Lila. She was so beautifully balanced, passionate, knowledgeable, and truly enjoyed sharing her wisdom with us.

Bobbi has a few pets that live on the property (that we fell in love with, but from a distance because of my allergies). Gracie (her Great Dane) and Gracita (her little mutt) and the gang are part of the family there, but they will not bother you if you don't want them to.

The nearest town, Todos Santos, was charming and provided many of the "necessities" you might want (if Bobbi doesn't have them). We loved exploring it and the few little beaches along the way, especially Pescadero and Cerritos. Bobbi has obviously embraced the local culture, made friends with merchants and fishermen and readily shared her knowledge about the area with us, which meant there was no need for Google or GPS.

There were so many vibrant colors and such beautiful plant life on and around this Oasis (thanks to Bobbi's love for painting and gardening) that it is a photographer's dream! This place was so magical that we almost (selfishly) want to keep it as our little secret-- but we also want to share it with the world! Consider yourself fortunate if you can get a reservation (Bobbi will do whatever she can to accommodate your dates) and discover this little slice of heaven. The reduced sized pictures I have posted will never convey the spirit of this place and Bobbi, and we cannot thank her enough for the experience. Until we return....

We just spent a week at the Baja Beach Oasis for our honeymoon and it was incredible! The casitas are adorable and very comfortable. Everything is clean and in excellent condition. The bed was so comfortable and the little kitchen in our casita was spacious and had everything we needed to prepare food. The casitas are a perfect place to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

Our casita had a kitchenette and small bathroom. All the showers for the casitas are shared and one is outdoors, but we never felt like we were sharing and we loved taking warm showers in the beautiful outdoor shower under the stars. There is wifi on the property but the signal is weak and comes and goes - this wasn't important to us but inquire about the most current state of the wifi in case this is important to you. The property has a beautiful pool and is all around very comfortable and has been lovingly maintained.

The house is a stones throw - maybe a two minute walk - to the nearest beach which is gorgeous and almost deserted! We spent an entire morning on the beach without seeing a single other person. We also loved the nearby Cerritos and Palmas beaches which are more popular but better for swimming.

The area is somewhat remote and a rental car is a must unless you plan on spending all your time at the casitas. The area is nothing like nearby Cabo San Lucas, so if you're looking for the Cabo resort experience, this may not be for you. If you're looking for a more personal, authentic experience and like getting away from the big crowds and cities, the Baja Beach Oasis is paradise.

Bobbi is the hostess with the mostest and has thought of everything you will need for your stay. We highly recommend taking advantage of the menu she offers - she is a stellar cook. We enjoyed tamales, salads, steaks and the best - and I really mean the best - margaritas I have ever tasted. She brought us thoughtful delicious treats like homemade cookies and toffee. It was really nice to be able to enjoy dinner that she prepared on the porch of our casita. Bobbie is also a wealth of information about the surrounding area. She recommended restaurants and activities and helped us set up a whale watching tour and a tour to swim with whale sharks, a magical experience. We learned quickly that if she has advice, it's good advice and you can't go wrong. Bobbi has created a warm and welcoming environment that made our stay so memorable. We are already planning our next trip!
