“DO NOT MISS STAYING HERE”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 17, 2014

We booked a visit to Strathgordon - to get away and enjoy NATURE

We stayed at the Lake Pedder Chalet - this is not a place if you want 5 star luxury. We had a twin room - the rooms do not have A/C, phones, TV, tea/coffee making facilities (tea/coffee is available in the main dining area 24/7).

This is a place to stay and enjoy the vistas, nature, the ambiance and relax! - not stay in your room - but enjoy a drink in the bar, sit and marvel at the views or go for a WALK.

Our room was sufficient, quiet, comfortable, airy and light.

Continental breakfast was included in the price.

Dinner was available in the dining room - which we had - considering the isolated location - the meal was great! and reasonably priced.

We highly recommend a visit to the area and a stay at the lake Pedder chalet - you will not be disappointed.

I really enjoyed our one night here. The room was good quality and it was a filling continental breakfast. We were joined by a group of contractors who work on something nearby and 20-odd motor bike riders. It is not far from the Gordon Dam and it is possible to walk along the dam wall - try doing that at Sydney's Warragamba. Strathgordon is 100km from the main road and you travel through some amazing scenary and get some idea of how wild the south west of Tasmania is.

Arrived after a 70km drive, with a recommendation that rooms were plentiful. tried to call to book room but no reception on phone. were told by manager that there were rooms available but no-one to clean them, he was rude, unhelpful and no wonder the place is for sale. I even offered to change the sheets and clean the room, but was met with a NO, who appoints a person like him to manage a beautiful spot like this? He is not doing hospitality anywhere any favours. So can't comment on the rooms but the lounge area looking out onto the lake smelt musty. If this guy leaves I would consider going back purely on location, other people I spoke to (mostly other women) met with the same unhelpful, and rude attitude.

Room Tip: I wouldn't stay here until this guy has gone!

We stayed with a large group in the basic accommodation which was very basic. Musty smelling wardrobe and only one pillow each and one towel. No tv or tea/ coffee making facilities. No extra toilet roll in bathroom in case you use all the other one which we did. Only cost $90 for the 2 of us with continental breakfast included. Curtains in room didn't block out the street lighting. Dinner meals were surprisingly excellent. Neville begrudgingly gave me a second towel. Great view of the lake from the dining room. Excellent road into lake pedder for motorbikes.

Our stay at the Lake Pedder Chalet was both relaxing and comfortable in our room overlooking the beautiful lakes. The Chalet features an open plan restaurant and lounge that was both warm, inviting and homely. The restaurant offers a variety of dinner options that are deliciously made and come in large servings. The continental breakfast is simple but energising for the day. We had a great time exploring the area and visiting the breathtaking Lake Gordon Dam. Its a slightly long drive to the Chalet but the beautiful natural scenery sure makes up for that. We will definitely be returning here for another relaxing holiday.

Room Tip: Book in the Pedder Wing for the best views of the lake

Rooms were very clean and the beds comfortable. We stayed in a room with a lake view. The staff are very friendly and helpful. There is no mobile coverage in this area and even though there was a TV in our room there was no coverage because the analogue has been switched off. There is satellite TV in the lounge area if you are desperate but it turned out a blessing to just sit and relax in the wonderful atmosphere. We had lovely weather and took our little boat out on the lake which was breathtaking. You can hire boats at the Chalet. We will definitely go back to experience the peace and take in the breathtaking views.

Ok. Let's get two facts out of the way. There is no mobile reception and fuel is more expensive than the nearest town 75k away. Big deal! We loved this place! Chilled out, friendly operators. Plenty for kids to do - indoor heated pool and cricket/sports area :)
The accommodation is on the basic side yet clean and comfortable. All up for four adults and three kids, sharing two rooms, great evening meal, drinks, cooked breakfast etc worked out at $80 ph! What a bargain and the views r to die for!!!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Pedder Wilderness Lodge is located right in the heart of Tasmania's Southwest National Park which is part of Tasmania's World Heritage Area. Recognised as one of the world's extraordinary natural wonders by the World Heritage Commission, it is to be protected forever from human intervention. One tree, which now sits out the front of the Lodge, was cut down in the 1970's before this protection was in place. The great Huon pine, which is about the width of a car, has its rings marked all the way back to the birth of Christ. Our surrounds, from which this great Huon came, boast everything from ancient awe-inspiring landscapes with boulders from the Jurassic period, striking mountains and lush sub-alpine rainforests with monolithic trees which range from centuries to thousands of years old, all the way to the modern man-made Gordon Dam which offers one of the world's top ten adrenaline activities. With accommodation for all types of travellers, Pedder Wilderness Lodge offers a relaxing and warm environment with a focus on fine Tasmanian food, wines and produce. With sweeping views of Lake Pedder and Twelvetrees Range you could not find a more perfect place to escape, explore, relax and enjoy our hospitality. ... more   less
