We wanted a place to kayak & do some fishing & this was perfect. My husband caught 8 fish in a couple of days from his kayak, so was pretty happy.
Our self contained chalet was excellent; modern, well supplied, with everything we needed, including a tumble dryer for the wet clothes.
We didn't eat at the restaurant, but the menu looked good. The bar was well stocked with a view over the lake to die for!
A visit to the dam wall is worth while.

Thank you to Sue - such a lovely host.

This place is stunning. Catch the sun over the lake, whilst having a meal and drink...absolute heaven. There is a lot of character to this place and the meals are fantastic. Who needs to go to Stillwater in Launceston when you can have a brilliant feed here for 1/2 the price!!!

If you are after comfortable low cost accommodation with exceptional service, I would pick here.

We just stopped in for petrol, as we were planning to stay in National Park. Had coffee looked around saw the scenery, fed the birds and decided to stay. We had the place to ourselves, which didn't stop the staff cooking us dinner and at such short notice too! Fantastic place. Highly recommended!

Our group came for a weekend of abseiling and kayaking and what a wonderful surprise the Lake Pedder Chalet was! A stunning location on the lake edge with a variety of accommodation to suit all budgets - some stayed in lake view and ranged down to backpacker - all of our rooms were immaculate, really comfortable and included a good breakfast. Large woodheater and open fire in the bar, dining and lounge areas. All our meals were excellent and we could not believe the generous servings and low prices! So much to see and do and would thoroughly recommend to families as an affordable family getaway. Thank you for re-opening this Tassie Treasure - we will be back and bringing others with us!

My mother and I stayed two nights. Mum to paint and me to write. The Chalet is the only place at Pedder to stay. Reopened from a 3 year closure in January 2012. Best rooms are the Queen with new ensuites and views of the Lake. Clean, comfortable and relaxed accom. Would have liked a hairdryer! Heating in room a bonus on such cold nights but try heating the passages too. We found it adequate for our needs but could do with some more colour on the walls, some good photos in bedrooms and passages, perhaps some indoor plants around, light in the lounge room at night and more healthy choices of foods on the menu. There is no information in rooms about check out times. We were rather surprised to learn they don't change beds or towels unless requested. We were told they only service every three days. For the price in Winter they should service daily. Also the cost needs to be adjusted for low season.

Room Tip: Queen bed rooms overlooking the Lake

We had never been up to Lake Pedar so we were delighted to see the chalet was open. The room we stayed in was clean and serviceable with everything we needed including a new bathroom. The heating was excellent as was the view, The actual public areas had a superb view with fires heating the large area. The menu was excellent with simple, delicious, fresh fare and excellent friendly service. What a pleasure! Well done to the new management.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Peddar Wing with a lake view.

Stayed 3 years ago before it closed, it was good.
Now since the refub, the rooms particularly bathrooms are very good
all was comfortable and clean, service very friendly.
the view is still great, the menu was a surprise, lots of thing to try which all sound great,
so the food was very good and we enjoyed a three course dinner.

I hope lots of people visit, because it a great place to visit, must see in the gordon dam 142m tall, ( 190 steps dowm to the dam wall) and take the drive out to scotts peak, it is dirt (40km each way), but view from the lookout past the dam is worth it

Room Tip: Get a room in the main building with a view of lake pedder

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Pedder Wilderness Lodge is located right in the heart of Tasmania's Southwest National Park which is part of Tasmania's World Heritage Area. Recognised as one of the world's extraordinary natural wonders by the World Heritage Commission, it is to be protected forever from human intervention. One tree, which now sits out the front of the Lodge, was cut down in the 1970's before this protection was in place. The great Huon pine, which is about the width of a car, has its rings marked all the way back to the birth of Christ. Our surrounds, from which this great Huon came, boast everything from ancient awe-inspiring landscapes with boulders from the Jurassic period, striking mountains and lush sub-alpine rainforests with monolithic trees which range from centuries to thousands of years old, all the way to the modern man-made Gordon Dam which offers one of the world's top ten adrenaline activities. With accommodation for all types of travellers, Pedder Wilderness Lodge offers a relaxing and warm environment with a focus on fine Tasmanian food, wines and produce. With sweeping views of Lake Pedder and Twelvetrees Range you could not find a more perfect place to escape, explore, relax and enjoy our hospitality. ... more   less
