Entertaining trip. There were many gators swimming around our boat. They seam to be quite brave. We also observed and fed wild pigs. Our guides name was Biship. This guy had a great sense of humor. He really cares about his work. The tour never felt rushed . He did not just go through the motions like most tours do. Would definitely recommend this tour.

Located alongside a state wildlife swamp preservation area, this is the very best "eco-tour" we have ever had as a family. With our wonderful, knowledgeable and folksy guide Capt Scott (a young man who is also a local fishing tour operator) we experienced every nook and cranny of a real swamp/backwater/bayou environment. Although your experiences may vary, you can certainly count on many, many opportunities to see alligators snap up mashmellows and hot-dogs-on-a-stick just a few feet away from you. On our nearly two-hour in a very comfortable shaded 22-passenger boat we also saw several very large feral pigs (we're talking 200-300 pound beasts), a water snake with a large catfish in its mouth, a few jumping wolf spiders on logs (the boat pulls right alongside logs and trees), a local racoon, and a few egrets. We also had some high-speed zooming along the river which creates a wonderful breeze (and pleases the kids) and lets you see a few private homes along the river. Overall, thsi was an excellent outing for my wife and I and our two sons (ages 12 and 16). Hint: If you have a car, it is very easy to drive here on your own in 45-60 minutes from downtown New Orleans then follow it up with a great lunch at Southside Cafe in nearby Slidell. They also offer a AAA (auto club) discount.

We had the great pleasure of booking this experience with Danaeux at the New Orleans Visitor Centre. From the pick-up with Derek to our tour with Captain Sammy everything met or exceeded our expectations. We may not have spotted some of the biggest 'gators in the area; however, the hospitality and knowledge shared was worth the trip.

I had been told by others how cool these swamp tours were, but I was not overly impressed. One hour would have been enough, because it's just the same thing over and over again -- chumming alligators with marshmallows, and then holding a hot dog on a stick and watching the gators jump for it. I was told by others that they had seen real Cajun swamp villages (houses on stilts, Cajuns waterskiing through the swamp, etc.), but we saw nothing Cajun at all. And when the swamp tour was over, we waited over an hour (90 degrees) for the bus to return to pick us up -- that sucked big time.

I did think that our bus driver was good, and our swamp guide was just fine, but the whole thing was really "over" in an hour. We were just "underwhelmed." And my wife got to hold a baby alligator, which she enjoyed.

I did go on two other Cajun Encounter tours (Plantations and City Bus Tour), and I thought that they were excellent.

Thank you for your visit, and for taking the time to give us a review.

We are so sad to hear that we fell short of your expectations. Being a family owned & operated business, we take extra care to provide fun, authentic excursions, and to read that we are "weak" in any way is a blow to the heart.

With this in mind, we would surely like to know who started any rumors about Cajuns waterskiing in the swamp! This is surely not the kind of thing we promise to our guests. What we DO guarantee are trips into a nature conservancy, where animals roam free, the air is fresh, and the scenery is beautiful.

In any case, it is good to hear that you enjoyed the Plantation tour and the City Cemetery tour, and that your wife was able to hold a baby gator. We are honored you chose us as your guide for all three excursions. A million times over, thank you.

Highly recommended swamp tour! We saw many alligators, blue heron as well as a cajun village only accessible by boat. Captain Greg was very informative!
