“Best money spent! Enjoyed so much I HAVE to come back!”

Absolutely the best experience on our trip and we had just got back from the Bahamas! Bishop was our tour guide and he is so funny and informative-really lets you get involved too-if you want to of course. Saw Brutus a huge alligator and found a whole new respect for them and creatures and the swamp As a whole! I can't say enough great things about this except to say if you don't go your missing out! Even if you don't see any alligators you will love it anyway-the guide will make sure you get your money's worth for sure!

“Something Different”
Reviewed May 8, 2012

Looking for something different to do while in New Orleans? Look no further than the Cajun Encounter Swamp Tour.
Cajun Encounters will pick you up at your hotel and take you to the Honey Island Swamp and Pearl River tour for a very reasonable and very enjoyable experience.
We stayed at the Homewood Suites on Poydras St. and booked the 10:30/ 11:00 time frame. The bus arrived about 10:45 and off we went to the swamp about 30 minutes away.
When we arrived we went inside the building that had a small gift shop to pay the balance we owed for we left a $20.00 deposit the day before at a kiosk at the riverfront mall where we booked the tour.
The line was long but moved very fast. We were given color wristbands and waited outside for our color to be called.
We walked a small wooden trail and arrived at a small dock where all the tour boats were located. Ours had a canopy and seated about 20 people. These boats are not the giant airboats like the ones used in the Florida Everglades. These are more like a Disney ride style boat with bench seats facing the water rather than facing forward.
Within minutes of leaving the dock we encountered a few alligators.
Seeing the boat and the Captain throwing marshmallows as bait into the water these creatures put on quite a show jumping out of the water or coming right along the side of the boat for a bite.
Who knew alligators love marshmallows? I guess this is good to know if you ever fall overboard in an alligator infested river. Just keep a bag of marshmallows with you and relax.
Anyway back to the tour.
Captain Brian was great. Not just alligators on the tour. We saw these giant Blue Herons that reminded me of prehistoric pterodactyls as the flew with their giant wingspan across the river looking for fish.
We learned about the venomous snakes in the river, wild boar, saw some very unusual trees and the swamp people living on the river.
We saw some of the areas destroyed by hurricane Katrina.
We rode not just in open water through the river but through the small channels with swamp life surrounding us.
This was more than just a tour. It was more of an adventure, and I would highly recommend doing this.
The total cost is $49.00 each and that includes pickup at your hotel.
Discounts are available online but those discounts are only available if you book online in advance. The company did give us a AAA discount of $2.00 each.
If you decide to drive yourself to you can save about half of what we paid.

“A great way to spend the afternoon!”
Reviewed April 30, 2012

We really enjoyed our swamp tour at Cajun Encounters. Upon arrival, it was crowded & hectic in their office and I feared it might be a bit disorganized but our check-in was handled swiftly and easily. We had booked a private boat & were very well taken care of and entertained by Capt. Brian. He was informative and funny and even called up an 8 ft alligator right to the side of our boat. We learned a lot about the flora & fauna of the Honey Island swamp and would recommend this trip highly.

“Great Experience”
Reviewed April 29, 2012

A wonderful way to spend two hours. Included a trip down the Pearl River and back into the Honey Island Swamp area. We saw lots of wild life including a Swallow-Tail Kite and a Swamp Canary as well as the usual turtles, alligators, etc.
Our guide was informative, funny, and kept us all entertained as we made the tour. Would love to do it again sometime!
