“Ah the serenity”

My husband and I stayed at the cottages for a night, whilst in the area catching up with family and friends. We found the huts on the internet and the pictures did not lie, it was beautiful! Our room was very comfortable and we slept so well, you could not hear the traffic on the nearby highway at all. The complimentary bottle of wine and the amazing cooked breakfast really enhanced our stay. We checked out the lookout spot near the cottages and enjoyed a sunset over the ranges, very pretty. We would stay there again!

My Wife and I stopped in here on the way home from the markets in Wirrabara. We enjoyed locally bottled drinks and the Bakery food was Really Good, and well presented as we 'dined in'. They have many locally made knick knacks from steel work to jams. Definetley suggest stopping in if your near the area.

We stayed at the stone hut cottages for 1 night on the Sunday of a long weekend as we left our accommodation in Auburn earlier than expected but did not want to make the trek back to port Lincoln just yet. We found Stone Hut Cottages on a booking engine and rang the property at 1pm that day to enquire about availability. We were successful and there was a cabin available but would not be ready until the checkin time of 2pm as it had been occupied the previous night - not a problem at all! After a slight 20km detour (our phone GPS took us to a completely different address!!!) we finally found the place and went to the bakery as directed. What an awesome place!!

The manager showed us how to get to our cabin and met us there with the key - gave us a quick run down and left us to settle in - easy peasy! We did not know what to expect but assumed they would be renovated old stone cottages - not quite. They are self sufficient transportable looking Eco 'huts' with little decks that bask in the afternoon and morning sunshine - we were lucky enough to enjoy the sunshine for the full duration of our stay even though it is winter! We loved the bathroom with its tin look walls and the kitchenette was very handy. Complimentary wine and chocolates are provided (although someone seemed to have beaten us to our choccies as we couldn't find them!) as well as breakfast the next morning.

We of course had to sample the wares at the bakery for a late arvo lunch - more expensive than a normal bakery but well worth it. We took ours back to the cabin to eat on the deck which we found out later saves a couple dollars off the eat in service. You can taste and appreciate the handmade pies so lovingly made!

The propertiers are lovely - asking how we slept and where we went for tea, actually having a real interest in the answers! For the record, absolutely no problems with noise, we slept like logs! Breakfast the next day was a proper hearty country breakfast and was complimentary with our room tarriff and the pot of tea was lovely.

We took a couple unheated pies and a few vanilla slices for the road and left feeling refreshed and rejuvenated after stumbling upon such a unique and beautiful little place.

We noticed that the property is for sale and wish them well with the sale, we hope that the new propertiers take on the same love and respect for the heritage of the area as these have. Thank you!

Comfotable and quiet location. Excellent amenities. Good size room. Very comfy bed. Friendly owner. Awesome bakery with the best chunky meat pies. Lovely surrounds. Only dowside there were no complimentary chocolates in the room as advertised and I love chocolate! We really enjoyed our stay thanks.

We travelled almost 5 hours to get to this accommodation as we had a function to attend in this local area. We rang prior to leaving advising what time we would approximately be there, when we did arrive we were about 50 minutes late that night, unable to notify the proprietor due to no phone service our mobiles where out of range, undeserving of the abrupt greeting we received though!. As country people ourselves we are very outgoing and friendly people and I guess just expected same. After knocking on door when arriving at night out walked the proprietor, no greeting whatsoever, no "how was your trip" or even a simple "hello or good evening", she walked and and directly gave us a spiel of "go down the road, see a red truck turn there, driveway further down....etc, meet you down there" then she turned around walked back inside. We were gobsmacked on the unfriendlines. We weaved our car in about numerous galvanised cabins and seen the torchlight of the proprietor pointing to ours. When we exited the car we were told "keys are in the door, breakfast is at 7.15am, just make your way over" and she walked off. Hmmmm. We entered the cabin, we were impressed by the modern decor, however, we were expecting the character old fashioned decorated decor as shown on website and in brochure. One of the faults in the cabin was that the sliding door next the the bed for the ensuite was way too small for the opening and when the door was slid shut, you could fit your hand through the gap, absolutely NO privacy when sitting on the toilet, or for noise reduction!!!. We were also expecting rural views from cabin, but because there are 8 cabins all on top of each other and not spread out, we had views of galvanised cladding of the cabin infront. We had booked and paid for two nights and we only stayed one. The reason for leaving was we kept being continuously SHOCKED AWAKE by the BLASTING AIRBRAKES of the roadtrains/trucks slowing down for the 80KM sign when coming into the town, the Stonehut accommodation is located adjacent to a highway!. We were of the impression from the website that the property is secluded and rural, therefore quiet, this is not so. (see photo I have taken of location). We were not offered a refund for not staying the second night when checking out and explaining the reason of noise. The only bonus of leaving Stonehut was we found an absolutely delightful bed and breakfast in Laura, S.A. to stay in, with character accommodation, quiet, with a lovely friendly hostess.

These guests were stressed and tired after travelling 5 hours to get to us and arriving an hour later than anticipated. There is a problem with mobile service in our area at times so I waited up for them and responded to their knocking as quickly as I could as we live on the premises. My greeting was brief, not rude, because all I wanted to do was to get them settled in to their cottage as quickly as possible so I did not bother with any check in procedures. I directed them to their cottage on the property and met them at the door, opened up for them and advised them that we would sort out the details in the morning. Stone Hut is a tiny township, secluded and peaceful. The only thing people are awakened by are the birds in the morning and should there be occasional traffic on the road it is usually gone by 8pm. We live on the premises and are never awakened by traffic of any note nor have we ever had any complaints about noise.
