“Amazing !”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 22, 2012

Being in NY for the past year, we were a bit worried when we arrived in St Martinville for two nights. There was no good reason as we found the St John restaurant.
It was so delicious that we ate there twice !!!
Everything was good (crab cakes, steaks, desserts,...)

We recommend to make reservations as this restaurant is appreciated by the locals.

“Best dining in Southern Louisiana”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 2, 2012

We rated Mulates in New Orleans quite highly but what St John lacks in music and dancing (lets face it there just isn't room in this small converted house) it makes up for with some beautifully prepared food that is well up even on Mulates. We had 2 meals there during our 4 days in the area. The steak was perfect and served with fantastic crab meat balls and the stuffed cat fish was heavenly. We went back and had the swamp platter with a mixture of cat fish, frogs legs and alligator and shrimp gumbo. I have not been impressed with gumbo anywhere in our 2 week trip but the St John version was perfect.

“Best Crab cake anywhere”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 11, 2012

This local eatery has genuine local cuisine. The lump crab cakes are tender, sweet, have no breading and are large enough as an appetizer to share. Don't share; tell your partner to get their own.The crab is brought in fresh EVERY morning. I have had fresh crab in Seattle, San Francisco, New Orleans and Baltimore and this is the best and that says alot coming from a Dungeness loving crab eater.

“I'm in Crab Cake Heaven”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 26, 2012

Recommended by a neighbor in passing, decided to stop in for lunch while in town on business, because unfortunately, St Martinville is a little off the main drag. Delighted we did, cute restaurant, friendly staff and without doubt the best crab cake I have ever eaten in my life. And it was the daily lunch special. We will be back!
Speaking of which, this was a wonderful experience, and the only bad thing I can say is the chairs are not very comfortable.

“Convenient, friendly service, good food”

That pretty much sums it up! Of the few options that were available, we chose St John, which is bascially a small house, and can be easy to miss.
