People drive from miles around out to a dirt road in the middle of nowhere to experience the best boiled crawfish anywhere in the world, at Hawk's. The mudbugs here are HUGE (he only gets the top 4% largest select crawfish from area crawfish farmers) and you have your choice of regular, hot, or extra hot. Owner "Hawk" Arceneaux places the select crawfish in fresh underground well water (since chlorinated water is toxic to crawfish) for up to 24 hours to "purge" them. This leads to a much cleaner product, without all of the dirt and debris that are oftentimes associated with boiled crawfish. The crawfish here are succulent and buttery and clean. I drive 2 hours from Baton Rouge to eat these once or twice a year. It's about $18 for 3.5 pounds or $25 for 5 pounds, and it's worth every penny. It's about a 10-minute drive off the interstate (415 Hawk's Road), but it's definitely worth it!
