The hotel is a former planters bungalow. It reopened in 2008 after an extensive 7 year renovation. Myself and a friend were booked into the twin room 'Bramaer' for one night.

Pros:
The access road wasn't as scary as some people on TA have reported.
Our driver/guide phoned ahead and the staff were waiting outside to greet us.
Delicious homemade fruit drink on arrival, along with a chat with the manager in the sitting room who informed us about the history of the premises and it's features.
Suitcases carried upstairs to our room by the hotel staff.
Everywhere is spotlessly clean and fitted to a high standard.
Friendly and helpful staff. The best I came across during my 8 day holiday in Sri Lanka.
Located within 50 acres of landscaped and terraced land.
They grow their own fruit, vegetables, herbs, tea and coffee. They also own 2 cows (Friesian and Jersey) for their milk, along with goats and several white rabbits.

Our room contained twin beds with duvet in wooden bed frame with wooden headboard, twin 3-drawer bedside cabinets and lamps, fireplace & firewood, suitcase stand, small single 3-drawer cabinet, padded armchair, bin, large 8-drawer cabinet, 2 blankets, local phone directory, safe, rug, wall adornments. 2x 500ml complimentary mineral waters. Large 2-door entry to en suite bathroom with coat stand, sink, large mirror and shaving mirror, hand, bath and sheet towels, large walk-in/glass fronted shower, toilet, rug. Floors tiled throughout. Great views from the bedroom and bathroom of their acreage and the hills beyond.

Adapters available from staff.

Breakfast/evening meals served in the dining room on a shared table.

Location had a perfect daytime and nighttime temperature - neither too hot nor too cold.

There are several local walks available from 30 minutes to a whole day. See the manager for details.

Cons:
Both mattresses in our twin room need replacing. The manager kindly allowed us to move to separate rooms, with king-size beds, in order to sleep.

Tip: Remember to switch on the bathroom hot water and allow time for the water to heat up. Our switch was located next to the bathroom door.

Once we have finally made it to Warwick Gardens (8 hours on the road and driver got lost couple of times!), it was clear from the beginning that this was the right place to unwind. Secluded luxurious guest-house surrounded by tea plantations is not your usual hotel experience. Frais and Mina were great hosts and made our stay wonderful.
Dining at the table with other guests is a great experience and my husband was even able to convince the chef to let him do the BBQ for dinner one night! Everything that gets cooked at the JWG is organic and is mostly sourced from their own garden.
I, personally, loved chimneys at each room and as nights were quite chilly was always on duty to add some more wood.
We were lucky with the weather and went walking around the hills. The villagers are very nice and friendly.
Alas, our trip was too short. only 2 days, we could have stayed a bit longer to enjoy the calmness and tranquility.

Room Tip: while we have stayed downstairs on the ground floor, the best rooms are on the first floor. However downstairs room was still beautiful and spacious.

Dear Guest,

First of all thank you very much for the review posted on Trip Advisor. Jetwing Warwick Gardens is nestled in the highlands and surrounded by tea plantations and typical mountain roads which are indeed a little bumpy but able to crossover two vehicles.

The property is indeed a haven away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. A reason why we have not placed TV’s in the rooms, so that guests sense the tranquility and serenity of the bungalow by taking in the incredible environment.

We hope to see you soon as it was a pleasure having you and wishing you all the best.

Sincerely,

Upul Leukebandara

This is actually more of a guest house than a hotel, and the information available on the website is a bit misleading.

Warwick Gardens is located in a rather secluded spot, about half an hour away from Nuwara Eliya town. The access to the property is a tad uncomfortable, as the road (more of a dirt track towards the end) is quite treacherous.

The property itself is an old colonial style house, with 5 or 6 bedrooms. The whole place is decorated in period style and maintained quite well.

However, if you are looking for a modern property with high speed internet and 100 channels on tv, look elsewhere. There is no internet, no tv in the rooms (there is one in the living room only) and no restaurant - you just tell the staff what you would like to have for the next meal and they will prepare it for you.

The surroundings are beautiful and the place is very quiet and serene - ideal to get away from it all and hibernate for a few days. There are hiking tracks in the vicinity, but we couldn't explore them as it was raining.

The staff is courteous and the food is good, but the place is too expensive for what it offers.

This is perhaps ideal for a newly wed couple who want to get away from the world and the fast pace of city life. However, apart from the hiking trails, there is little else to do in the vicinity and it does get a bit lonely at night.

Dear Guest,

First of all thank you very much for the review posted on Trip Advisor. Jetwing Warwick Gardens is nestled in a tea plantation and access roads are typical estate roads which are not as narrow as you mentioned as they are have enough room for two vehicles side by side.

We have not placed TV in rooms because we would like guests to sense the tranquility and serenity of the bungalow as it is indeed a property to get away from it all. Hope to see you back at Jetwing Warwick Gardens and wishing you all the best.

Our first impressions on arriving at Warwick Gardens after a long drive from Vil Uyana in Sigiriya were "very nice... but let's not do that again". I even recall telling my wife that I would not be leaving the hotel until we checked out.

The reason for all of this was a steep and narrow winding road which leads to the property which obviously unnerved my wife and I as much as all the other guests.

We then settled in to 5 days at Warwick Gardens and all my initial apprehensions were dismissed very very quickly.

Warwick Gardens is not a hotel, not really, it's a luxury guest house (the guest house concept is quite common in Nuwara Eliya and has been for decades) which allows you to plug out and unwind in style.

Reading through some of the other reviews, Warwick Gardens is not for everyone. If you're looking for a "hotel experience" with a pool, wifi, TV and room service, then this isn't the place for you. If you're looking for something centrally located to Nuwara Eliya city, then this isn't it either. What Warwick excels at is giving you all the comforts of you would normally enjoy while at home while allowing you to experience the real heart of Nuwara Eliya.

This was established right from the outset when we were met by our manager with the greeting "welcome home!".

The meals are excellent and almost everything is sourced from the property's gardens so you get fresh organic food.

Several hiking trails surround the property and Faris (the resident manager) is very knowledgeable about which routes you should take and the flora and fauna on the way. We opted for a moderate 5 hour hike behind the property which took us higher up in to the hills past waterfalls and streams and surrounded by tea plantations which gave some great views and fantastic photo opportunities.

We also hiked along the path we arrived at and it pretty much quelled all my concerns, while the road does seem daunting while sat in a car, it is more than ample to deal with even trucks and buses several of which we saw puttering around, visitors might want to organize a driver with the team at Warwick as the drivers they hire are well versed with the area and very safe.

The rooms and very comfortable and we did not miss having a TV in our room (there is a communal TV down stairs) or wifi and I was finally able to catch up on some reading.

Still, none of this would be possible without the team at Warwick, Faris and Mina did their very best to accommodate almost all our requests, they were attentive and spoiled us thoroughly.

If Warwick Gardens has a winning formula, it is the people who run the property.

A fantastic experience and 5 days well spent, we will definitely be back!

Room Tip: The Warwick Suite, while being one of the more expensive rooms available offers stunning views of the gardens and the valley below and also includes a large couch which comfortably seats two people stretched out on either end.

Good place to relax from the stresses of daily life. We stayed there for 2 nights and enjoyed evry bit of it. It's very peaceful. Has all the facilities. Friendly and helpful staff. On the negative side there was a few power cuts. it's difficult to find the place. Lack of sign's to advise the location. The road leading to the place needs futher attention. But once your there, it's a lovely place. Found the fresh vegitables in the garden to be nice and tasty. Saman who looked after us did a wonderful job. Always eager to please us. It's a home away from home.

Dear Guest,

We thank you for your kind words about Jetwing Warwick Gardens that you took the time to post on Trip Advisor. This property is indeed beautiful and has been in existence for over a hundred years. In fact, we do our best to keep this place environmentally friendly and produce all necessary vegetables, fruits, herbs, dairy products and even flowers from our garden to be self-sufficient. We do sincerely appreciate your sentiments and they will be passed on to Saman and the team.

We are closely liaising with local government officials to have more signage, no power failures and road improvement and it is a work in progress. The access road is however a typical estate road and is the norm in the highlands of Sri Lanka.

It was a pleasure having you and we hope your next stay will be very soon.

Sincerely,

Upul Leukebandara
