This old tea-planters house is in an excellent location with great views. We were warmly welcomed by the guy who seems to run the entire operation and were shown around. Dinner is served on one large table for everyone which was fine on our first night as our fellow guests were great but on our second night all the other guests spoke hardly a word of English which made it very hard going. It's a fixed menu which was the same both nights we were there which isn't great. The hot water in the rooms is from an individual heater. Most people want a shower when they arrive so it would be a good idea if the staff were to turn them on in readiness. They also hold a relatively small amount of water: not realy enough for 2 showers. It's a good location for Horton Plains and there are some pleasant walks around where you can see the tea-pickers working the fields.

Despite the unique location and comfortable accommodation this was was just a little less good than the other special places we stayed in during our trip to Sri Lanka (though the bar was set very high). The place itself is beautiful and the food and service good. The rooms are spacious and well-appointed but there was not the atmosphere of some of the other places we visited. The service was re-active rather than pro-active (though always courteous and willing) and we had to seek out help when we needed it as there often did not seem to be anyone around and it was all a bit impersonal. The road in was dramatic (though a little hair-raising) and the local people were very friendly. The food was good and clearly sourced locally wherever possible. As a base for visiting Horton Plains it was well-located within an hour or so's drive of the gate and Nuwara Eliya is also conveniently close.

Room Tip: Front rooms/suites have the best views

A fairytale emerges on the hillside after a precarious journey along a road basically constructed of hairpin bends and steep inclines. The house itself has been lovingly restored by the estate manager as have the surrounding beautiful gardens. Everything is tasteful. Our room- the White room- is stunning and has amazing views from it's many casement windows. As there are only 5 rooms at times we actually felt we had the whole house to ourselves though it was nice at night to sit down at the beautifully set dining table and chat with the other guests. The staff are extremely attentative and we enjoy many an interesting discussion with the estate manager Mohamed Faris who is on hand throughout our ( unfortunately too short) stay. The meals are the best we had in Sri Lanka (using fresh produce from the estate) and extremely reasonably priced. The picnic breakfast prepared for our predawn departue to Horton Plains was a delight. We really felt special during our stay and wished we could have stayed longer in this relaxing grandeur. We hope to return and highly recommend this property to the discerning traveller.

Room Tip: White room (aka honeymoon suite) has 'secret' entrance, stunning views and claw foot bath

A hair raising journey along an unmade up road takes you to this former teaplanters house converted into a small hotel.

Once there you are in another world with spectacular views across the tea estates. Service is very good with the whole team very keen to please. Meals are taken together at the long dining room table.

The house is charming with all manner of antiques and a feeling of total relaxation prevails. It really is a very special place.

We were fortunate in that the weather was good so we ere able to sit outside and walk around the surrounding estate.

Would not recommennd for a one night visit as you need a bit of time to enjoy the place. We stayed two nights which was fine making a visit to Horton Plains whie there.

Probably the most enjoyable place we stayed in Sri Lanka in terms of its character.

Room Tip: We sayed in the White Room which is a lot larger than some rooms but is worth the extra.

The long drive from Colombo is so worth it, when the final destination is an idyllic paradise like Warwick Gardens. We travelled in a group, and everyone including the kids had a great time. The bungalow itself was so beautifully appointed, and the weather was just perfect. The children enjoyed visiting the mini farm and vegetable garden, while the adults enjoyed vodka and red bull. Long walks through the tea plantation and watching an eagle swoop low in search of its prey were just amazing.
The biggest plus factor was the service. Mr. Faris and his team were incredibly attentive to all our needs, making sure that each and everyone of us was comfortable. The food, both Sri Lankan and Western was great.
We will deffinitely be back.
