We had a great lunch last week at Victor's. From the red beans and sausage to the fried chicken, everything was delicious. All the people there were super friendly, and the highlight of the whole thing was talking to Miss Catherine about her pecan pie! Well, actually eating the pie was the highlight, but talking about it was a close second!

We stopped in for Sunday dinner. It was pretty plain fare. Some variety, but not large selection of main dishes .The food was ok but not great. The service was fine. They make their money by charging by the item - as do most cafeteria style eateries. The restrooms are very basic.

We have lived in New Iberia for five years and have breakfast here about twice a month and sometimes lunch. Breakfast items are displayed in the cafeteria line, but order what you want because they cook many dishes to order. They make a great omelet with your choice of fillings. The fried eggs, French toast, pancakes are all cooked to order. We get our grits in a bowl, with cheese on top. Yummy. Do NOT pass up the biscuits. They are wonderful! After you order, get your drink and endless coffee. Your food will be brought to your table. They have sugar free syrup for your pancakes or French toast. The lunch choices are always excellent too. Be sure to take walk across the street to view the Bayou Teche, after you finish eating.

When I became a tour director in 2000, I learned that cafeterias are a very southern thing. I have taken my groups to many, some great and some OK. Fortunately, Danny Bonaventure of Allonsa Lafayette Tours recommended this for our group when we had a lunch on our own. It was excellent. The choices were good for everyone and the decor was so incredibly interesting. The staff was extra friendly too. We also learned that Victor's has a place in all of James Lee Burke's novels. There is even a little cut out of a store he talks about in his books. This is a must stop just for the local experience if not the delicious food. It tasted so good I couldn't quit eating even when I was full!
