“Unique ”
Reviewed March 7, 2014 via mobile

Although the outside may deter some, the buffet is truly unique in the Monroe area. Every dish is delicious and you can see it's a mom and pop establishment. However, I've never seen them leave a container empty. They're always full and don't skimp on the meat. The naan bread goes great with anything on it. They do close briefly in the middle of the day to transition from lunch to dinner at about 3-5 (I had to learn that the hard way). Overall, excellent choice for either meal.

“A nice change of pace”
Reviewed February 24, 2014

We went during the weekend lunch buffet and I thought the food, service, and price were all good. The food was flavorful with quality ingredients. I don't expect a buffet to be good food, but this was really good food.

“Authentic Indian Food”
Reviewed September 29, 2013 via mobile

As the only Indian restaurant in Monroe, Taste of India is very authentic in flavor and items served. The restaurant is owned and operated by a local Indian family. The wife runs the front of house and the husband and grandmother cooks in the kitchen. For those reviewers complaining of service, give them a break- only a three person mom and pop establishment. But the flavors and food more than make up for occasional slow service. The food is not as spicy as other Indian food I've had elsewhere in the U.S., but I think that's because it's tailored to local tastes. The cumin isn't so overpowering in their curry. Even my husband who doesn't like cumin and curries will eat their curry dishes. The lunch buffet is excellent and a good value. Tandori chicken is great with lots of flavor. The Indian flatbread that comes with the meal-OMG I can eat that alone. Love their various veggie dishes and flavored rices. If you're a vegetarian, here's a place for you. Located in a former Chinese restaurant, what Taste of India lacks in atmosphere, they more than make up for in taste and friendliness. For those new to Indian food, this is great place to cut your international culinary teeth. Taste of India takes credit cards, no reservations needed, and is open for lunch M-F. Try the chai tea.

“Yay for Indian!”
Reviewed May 31, 2013

As far as I know, this is the only Indian restaurant around. They have some of the best butter chicken and their naan is delicious! It's definitely better value for money to go at lunch but that is the case everywhere. If you're unfamiliar with Indian food and not sure what you would order, go at lunch for the buffet.
