We expected an average room after reading the reviews. We were looking for a clean and comfortable room about half way between our home and our Fall travel destination. Monroe fit the geography but most of the inexpensive motels in Monroe did not have very good reviews. We chose Days Inn based on one reviewers recent claim that the bed was comfortable and the room clean. He was right. Reviewers were also right abut the towels being small. They were also rough. It was a bit like drying with a sheet of sandpaper but the towel did the job.
It took the air conditioner 2 hrs to cool the room but once cool it remained cool all night long. The room had WiFi, most motels do now, but most older hotels also lack enough electrical outlets to charge the numerous number of wireless devices that now plague our social lives in America. This room was no exception. I have learned to take along adapters to change one outlet into six.
The Continental breakfast must have been from a very small continent. A third world family may have been happy with the fare but most Americans want their food served by the bushel. We are not big on stuffing ourselves before the day begins so breakfast was exactly that, break the fast, and it was sufficient. Mary prefers cream cheese with her bagels but none was available. There were no donuts, the bagels were baby sized and the Cinnamon rolls were mini rolls. Nothing was fresh enough to avoid the microwave. The fruit was okay.
The coffee was also okay which is a plus for me. After living in Europe for three years our love for coffee is one that most Americans fail to appreciate. Few restaurants brew coffee that I can drink with a meal so I brew and take my own wherever we go. I like any artificial sweetener except Sweet N Low and that was the only one available.
I might have rated this motel higher if they had offered no breakfast at all. After all, the staff was friendly and for $55 we got a clean room, clean bathroom and a comfortable bed. Add to that a coffee pot, hairdryer, iron, a mid-sized fridge and a microwave all in the room. We have stayed in more expensive accommodations where we had to ask for some of these amenities.
So we do recommend this motel to others. It is one of the lower priced rooms for Monroe, has easy access from I-20 and is perfect for an overnight rest in the middle of a trip like ours. We will stay here again when our travels take us through Louisiana.
