We stopped at the Louisiana Purchase Kitchen late one night because we were tired and it was the closest open restaurant. We should've gone to McDonalds. First of all, the service was virtually non-existent from the moment we walked in. You have to pay first (I assume to discourage people refusing to pay for this slop), and the older lady at the counter did not seem interested in taking our order. Even as four tired, hungry travelers stood there staring at her. Then we sat down. No one came up to ask if we needed anything. We had to get our silverware from a table where someone was rolling them in napkins. Then there was the buffet. The rice was hard and had been cooking under the heat lamps. The cold food was lukewarm, and the hot food was cold. We filled up on mac-and-cheese, cuz it didn't seem as disgusting as the rest of the food. The waitress was also the buffet attendant, and seemed uninterested in doing either task. During our meal we were entertained by the various employees sitting in the many many empty tables with their feet up on other chairs complaining about their jobs. Yes, they were whining about a job that allows them to sit with their feet up.
There was one good thing in the whole experience: The bread pudding. The brandy sauce was great, and the bread pudding was soft and moist like it should be.
My advice to anyone trucking down Veterans Highway in Metairie: Keep moving, surely there's a better place eat than this place.
